Fuel gauge doesn't work

Ok so it's a 87 300zx 2+2. Gas gauge doesn't work BUT the secondary gauge below it breaking down the 1/4-Empty does work.

If the float/sending unit was bad, i think the secondary wouldn't work?

Thoughts / suggestions?

Welcome!
Try the classic Z forum for your Z31 questions for best results, I can only agree with you on your assessment and also wince because my limited experience with the Z31 wiring and electronics was a nightmare which will not be repeated...
