I plan on getting a apexi afc, for the 280zx, anyone used this fuel controller, or have any experience with these? Are they good?

I want to get one since my car's running to rich, and i remember when i pinched a fuel hose, it cut off the flow a little, and my car ran so much better, so i figure get the controller, and adjust the amount of fuel being sent to the engine, so if anyone knows anything about these lmk.

don't do it!

stock tune will have your car runnign rich and in a boosted car tahts a good thing, stiochmetric or lean will break things!

assuming your rich condition isn't caused by a chts or O2 sensor, you can tune at your afm, thats the beauty of an afm system, might still be rich but you can get taht sucker really responsive, my L28ET was in a lighter 240Z but I had no intercooler on a 183k mile junkyard engine, it dyno'd 230 whp and ran a 13.010 in the quarter! granted I wwas runnign around 9psi as any more made my car ping at the long end

I thought rich will kill the fuel pump?

It's running rich because of the jsk barbed rail, and the way it's setup.

so I can fix it by adjusting the afm? Where do i adjust it, got any pics?..... damn my friend ordered that controller earlier today, anybody want it i'll let it go for 60 bucks i bought it for 90 lol.

Will the Z31 Ecu out of a automatic work for the 5spd 280zx, it says it will, but i figured i would verify that here.

Also this is kind of a dumb question and prolly get ripped on for asking, but is 280zx obdII?

OBDI came around 1990 and OBDII was 1996, so no

However, It will only kill the fuel pump if you're already pushing the volume up high on it. If you're up for it score a Z32 pump and with a stock motor and stock turbo no amount of rich condition will make it over work that pump

Yea i didn't think it was, I was just wondering because i seen the new greddy informeter touch, and that thing looks sooo damn awesome, I wanted to get it for the Z but I think it only works with OBDII.

running rich has no effect on the fuel pump

the jsk fuel rail or any other fuel rail has zero effect on how rich ior lean your car runs, the larger rails have the capacity to supply mroe fuel, but unless you have the injectors and dutycycle to use them you won't get any extra fuel

the afm has a plastic cap, take that off, thats where yiou adjust the preload ont he spring, thsi directly effects duty cycle to the injecotrs

yes you can use a Z31 ecu, yous need the L28ET distibutor and shaft, Z31 harness, ecu, mas, distributor shutter wheel and a couple fo other bits, sorry it's been a long time since I considdered that

280zx is non OBD, actually it's bosch L-Jetronic, the Z31 is OBD0, Z32 is oOBD1

the stock fuel pump runs ar the same speed no matter how much power you are making, the only thing you can do to hurt the fuel pump in a stock configuraion is to use an AFPR to raise the static fuelo presure, putting more strain on the pump, Z32 pumps are in tank, the S130 uses and extranal pump, so no you can't swap a Z32 pump in

do nto waste you time wiht these pigy bakc or fuel controller box's, if you want mroe control over the computer, either run megasquirt or the Z31 ecu swap with a zemulator or similar

Wow thanks, dky. I'm not gonna make anymore purchases until u verify them as a good or bad buy lol.

I'm just going to return that fuel controller, and use the money to buy a oil temp sensor, and what ever else with the extra money, probably get new cap and rotor.

As for the megasquirt, how much does one of those set-ups run, I always read about people with Z's using the megasquirt system, but never really looked into them.
