Long time reader, infrequent poster.

I searched around and was able to find diagnostic procedures for getting MIL/CEL readings, but almost always include, or refer to a list of codes. All of which have not been dead-on for me.

I put my on board diagnostic system into test mode ii get dtc from the blinking mil. I got 5 long and 5 short, which under most circumstances is "System Ok" which was always ok for me previously owning a 90 and 94 Q45. Now I have a 1998 Q45 and in parenthesis it reads (1990-1995 Q45 only).

I have referred to the FSM, but need your help. I've read how to read the codes, and learned that with the later year Q45, 5 long and 5 short, are 0505, instead of 55, since the later cars are able to generate two digits in a long blink.

So which of the columns from the Diagnostic Trouble Code Index should I be looking at to "map" my code?

1) Consult GST...2) ECM...

Note: I turned the diagnostic dial on the ECU to get the code. The check engine light was NOT lit on the dash, prior to the check, nor lit after.

Thanks in advance!

IF you have 98 Q you are OBDII and itd be easier for you to just take it to autozone for a free code scan..

Mass production of simple OBD2 scanner has resulted in their being affordable by everyone. Anyone who does their own maintenance should have one to at least do triage................those things that demand immediate resolution vs something that can wait a week or two.

Inet and Google have made it possible to type " Nissan P0xxxx" and get common faults for common codes. If you are a trained searcher you can find the proceedure for everything especially with a FSM at hand.
