The front passenger window on my 1997 I30 just stopped being able to roll up. It is able to roll down, and I can hear the motor turning when it's "trying" to roll up. There doesn't appear to be anything in the tracks keeping the window from moving, as I can pull the window up by hand.

I have the service manual on a CD-ROM, and have an exploded view of the door components.

I took off the door liner, and see (from the manual) that there are two cables that connect to the top and bottom of the window puller. Could the cable that pulls the window up have broken off or come loose? I can't really get my hand in there to feel if that's the case.

Does anyone have any experience or advice for me for this situation?

I can't see how I can disconnect the cables from the window so I could replace the motor/cable assembly.

Would I take this to a regular mechanic or a body shop to have it professionally repaired?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

have had the same problem and it was the motor was dying. You have to think that the window weighs a decent amount and when you press the down button the cable unlocks and the weight of the window pushes the "lift" down, but they motor doesnt have enough power to lift the window up on its own

Thanks tigersharkdude. That makes sense.

Were you able to replace the motor yourself, or did you have it done by a mechanic?

Did you have to replace the regulator as well? I'm wondering how I'd know if the regulator needs replacement. I guess if I'm going to do it, I should replace both to be sure.
