What causes the interior fog/frost that doesn't allways want to go away with the defroster? Its worse on the rear windows. I bought some Rain-x interior fog wipes. I haven't used them yet since its so cold outside. Should I just use them or will they even work? Thanks.

I don't know the exact cause persay, but my windows seem to be worse when I let them get dirty on the inside. It seems like the dirt somehow attracts the cold and frost.

I had frost/ice on the inside of my windshield for the first time a week ago after a heavy rain and then a really cold night. Anyone else having frost on the inside? It may be common in the colder states, but maybe not in Mississippi.

Foggy Glass seems to be a Versa problem. I wonder if they have a differen't kind of glass or something.

It's all about ambient temperature really . inside the car it will normally be 2 to 5 degrees warmer, add a warm human body and there ya go Even running a cooler temp out of the vents should help.

Breathing inside will cause the windows to fog up, due to the moisture. Warm air tends to have more moisture than cold air.

Just flip the climate control on window defog with the a/c on and that will do the trick.

check floor mats to make sure they are not soaked/damp/wet/moist also.

As some have alerady stated, if they start to fog turn the climate control to the cooler temp along w/ hitting the A/C button when you have it set to defrost.

Sometimes I'll either crack a window open a bit, or pop the sunroof up and the fresh air helps to eliminate the fogginess.

Its just been to cold to crack the windows. And we have rubber floor mats too.

Every car does this.. it used to happen in my Scion xB all the time.

Anyways when this happens you have 3 options: 1: Crack your window a TINY bit. 2: Turn your defrost on (hot or cool) 3: Both 1 & 2 :P

I've noticed that mine is worse when the inside of the windshield is dirty too. Odd, I can't think of the possible correlation.

From my experience, this is a unique to the Versa.

Yes, it's true as some have stated all cars do this but usually it's with a reason like damp carpet, a rain soaked coat, extra passengers or panting dogs but none of my previous vehicles (14 and counting) have ever demonstrated this for absolutely no reason like the Versa does.

I can't offer a solution as yet but I wonder if it may be realted to what sort of interior exhaust vents this car has. These are typically one way rubber flaps that many manufacturers tuck in behind the sides of rear bumper shrouds. You'll spot them easily if you ever see a vehicle partially disassembled at a body shop. Does anyone know what the Versa uses in this regard? Does it even have them? I've wondered this for another reason and that's the extra effort you need to close a door or the hatch when it's the only thing open. If a window or other door is open, it's very easy but with everything closed, it's another matter.

Maybe Versas can float like the original VW Beetles ;<))

another posibility may be the interior plastic/vinyl pieces "gassing out". the "new car smell" that many of us like is actually the scent of the interior plastics releasing chemicals that were used in their manufacture.

i could have an entirely dry car interior, but if i park in direct sunlight for a day, i end up with a slight haze on the interior glass, mostly the windshield.

i've had my V for over 2 years now and i still get that haze, as well as with other vehicles.

Funny you should mention out gassing as I was going to add a comment in my previous post about this Versa being the only vehicle I've owned that didn't demonstrate this.

Mind you, I've only had it for 5 months, but one of the conditions of the sale negotiation was that the dealer not use any sort of protectant on any interior surface in prepping the car for delivery, which they absolutely adhered to.

Why, you might ask? I learned many vehicles ago that once any sort of protectant is used in the interior, such as Armor-All and all of its competitors, your car will never get rid of the off gassing that makes your interior glass look like you have a 'two pack a day habit' when you don't even smoke, especially when left in the sun.

not every car does this.....only japanese cars for some reason. Domestic cars for some reason are built to handle our climate better, every japanese car i have ever owned fogged up in the winter, and every domestic car i have owned didn't. Not sure why this is, but I have come to realize if you want the reliability of a japanese designed car, you deal with the foggy windows in the winter.

Can't quite agree with it being a Japanese car thing. 12 of the 14 previous cars I've owned were Japanese and none did it quite like the Versa.Still believe it's a design flaw related to insufficient interior passive ventlng as suggested previously. . . . .

My previous car was a Toyota Corolla and I never had this problem.

Another common problem of the Versa I guess.. The list is starting to get long *sigh*

I'll try the tricks you guys mentioned. I have rubber mats but they tend to collect water, I'll try and empty them more often. My vent is always on a/c + warm + defrost but I'll try with cooler setting... I tend to get cold so it might not be pleasant. This problem can get annoying considering the fog turns into frost if left there overnight. Cold climate can be a pain.

I've bought rain-x to prevent fog, but I'm not sure when would be the proper time to use it and if it'll even make a difference.

How much water does it actually collect? Are we talking about a pond? Or drips?

Don't do that - you'll be better off comfortable.

Did you buy Rain-X water repellent? Or Rain-X anti fog?

They collect a little water, they are michelin winter mats:

The little "pocket" tend to collect snow that eventually turn to water.

I'll keep it on warm setting then. I just read a cooler setting could help.. or opening slightly the windows..?

I bought Rain X anti-fog.. but I read not so stellar reviews online.. I wonder if I should even try it or just return it..

Thanks for your inputs. This forum has been helpful.

Yah I'll recommend tapping the boots clean as much as possible, running the AC, with recirc off, but with the vents directed to the front and feet (for maximum air/heat).

I generally stick with this, and rarely direct the ventilation to the glass.

That is pretty much what I do now, but I'll try playing with the direction of the vent, I think I prob directed it at the windows.

Thanks!

One thing that might be overlooked as far as fogging is the interior/exterior slider lever on the heater dash area. If you have it set for interior, it will just recirculate the air inside the car and windows will fog up sooner. Set it to exterior to bring in fresh, outside air esp. in the damp winter months. That way, you don't have to crack the window.

I know if thed fog is really bad and you cant get it to wipe off well it is possible the problem is related to antifreeze fumes. I was afraid of that when I saw my versa doing this, but its not that in my case, it is really annoying though. Funny that as winter moved in, it stopped doing it, only did it in the fall so far.

thats a great video, my versa does not have a sunroof, and the only real complaint I've had about my V is the foggy windows, I live in Florida, and never had a car that needed the rear defroster on so much.I have had many Nissans, sentra, frontier, altima, 350z, Infiniti G35, none of these have had this.I have tried cleaning the inside windows, but fog is the only real problem with this car, wish there was a easy answer!

Personally I think the fog problem is really just a function of the large interior volume + relatively small blower/condenser.

my issue is not with the defrosters ability to clear the windows, but the fact that they fog up so often.Yesterday it was about 74 degrees here, (light drizzle, earlier). I had to run the rear defroster to see out the back window the whole trip.I use the rear window defroster more than I have in any car I've owned(Nissan or other, and there have been a lot of them)here in Florida, it should be something I seldom use.
