I'm comtiplating on whether I should buy a lightweight flywheel or not. My friends said it's not that really important. The reason I want to get it is because I don't want to tear my transmission down later on. I did it before and it's a pain in the *** without power tools and lift. So what do you guys think? If I have tons of money then of course it's not a big deal but I don't.

depends on the reason you want it. I had a lightened Toda on my CA18DE and it wound up like a Gixxer but had no balls from a stop launching it and would bog on the 1-2 shift. A CA18DET would fare much better of course but if you do most of your fisticuffs from the light keep the OEM flywheel.

I think they made the CA18 flywheel heavy for a reason. Plus, I like keeping the revs up in between shifts.

the lack of torque needs the stored kinetic energy.

I've got a 12lb flywheel on mine and you definatly loose some torque. I've got to wrap it up more now just to take off normally, BUT I do think that the motor revs faster, has better acceleration (once you get going), and the turbo seems to spool quicker. (probabally due to the motor reving faster) I'm happy with.

Speaking of flywheels, I need one!!!I need a stock one, I dont care if I have to machine it.[/hijack]

Just as a reference, my KA motor has a Fidanza flywheel on it and I noticed a lot of difference in the low end, but the high end accellerated quicker. I believe it to be a trade similar to installing bigger cams in your head. It is kinda sorta that way for them as well...

hmmm...interesting. I suppose there is a differ in the engine revving better but it's not that huge of a differ to spent about 400 on. I guess I'll use that money for engine or suspension upgrades. Thanks guys
