Post

Hi, I wanted to do a complete lubes change on my 1994 4x4 King Cab D-21 pickup, manual transmission, 4cyl engine.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but am I correct that on a 4x4 manual trans I have the following to check and replace lube in:
  • Front differential (drive axle)
    Rear differential (drive axle)
    Transfer case
    Manual transmission
Correct? If I've got that much right, what/where is the transfer case? I have two shop manuals and both seem to assume I know what it looks like and where it is . . . and whether I have one on my truck

The transfer case is attached to the rear of the transmission. Both front and rear driveshafts attach to the transfer case.

Don't forget engine oil.

I suppose this would be an ok thread to throw this in...
My trans in my 95 4x4 xe with a KA is numbered Fs5W71C. As I recall there were a few of the transmission that did not require the over filling. Does this serial number fall under the overfill club? Maybe I am imagining reading there were transmissions that were exempt from the over filling. :gotme

Yeah, you don't need to overfill that model. Only the 1986.5 - 1995 4WD FS5R30A is affected.
