Flashing Airbag 2001 I30 - I know, it never ends

I realize that this has been talked to death, but my 2001 I30 has a blinking airbag light. I managed to get it in diagnostic mode and it blinks 1 slow blink, then 2 faster blinks and then repeats. It happened about 6 months ago and after I got it in diagnostic mode I started the car and it must have cleared the code as it went off. Now it's in the diagnostic mode and I can't get it out. I've tried pressing the door pillar as suggested in another post even though I don't believe it's for my car with no luck. I also disconnected the battery and that didn't work. Any other ideas?

Take a look at the Restraint System (RS) section of the FSM starting with the Trouble Diagnosis Introduction on page RS-35.

On page RS-36 it explains how to move from diagnostic mode to user mode. One long, two short flashes looks like it could be a malfunctioning driver's airbag module (RS-56) which would explain why you can't reset it. If this is the case it's not going to stop flashing until repaired. Diagnosis for the airbag module malfunction is explained further into the RS section. Good luck.

Thanks Mike. I t appears to be above my pay grade but I'll give it a shot. Any idea what a repair like that would cost at the dealer assuming it is the airbag module? Or is this something that a local mechanic could handle?

I'm not sure if it's the same for your car.. Try to turn ignition on until the airbag light goes out then repeat 3-4 times then turn off wait 10 sec and start car it should be reset. I hope this helps it worked on my 2002 q45
