Hey everybody! Just got my Versa's first oil change on Monday and as I was leaving the dealer I noticed a knocking sound coming from the engine for about 5-10 seconds. It is now Wednesday and I haven't heard it since that one time leaving the dealership. Does anyone have any insight into what this was? Also, can anyone clarify the oil change intervals? The sticker they put in my window says 3000 miles. The owner's manual says every 3750. Anyways I really dig this forum and enjoy reading the different topics!

Cheers!

I'm not sure if Nissan uses any type of check valve in the oil filter system to prevent losing prime at the oil pump. If not, then it was probably just the initial startup of the engine/pump that you heard knocking. I would suggest you check the oil level, regardless if you just had it changed. Most dealers are decent enough to do an oil change, but periodically they make mistakes and may have left it a little to low or something.

Oil change intervals can be a debate that can go forever. It mostly depends on your preference, and then main guidlines of the manufacturer. I change mine at every 3000. I know the first one was at 3750, but after that I do it at 3k. Some people go anywhere from 3-5k before doing a change, but that depends on oil type, weight of oil, synthetic or not, and driving conditions/habits. The rest is personal preference IMO.

My versa went in for its first change last week and I too had the knocking problem. It may have been the hood-rod-thingy (real technical, I am), because when I opened the hood, took the rod out and put it back into its place and closed it up, there hasn't been any more noise
