Hey Guys! Just wanted to introduce myself in this section because I also have some questions. This is my first D21 (1997 XE 2.4 4x4). I decided that since I've never had a truck that I wanted start with something cool and I found this gem on CL and couldn't pass it up. It's pretty clean and it seems like the PO took care of it.

Like I said this is my first truck. I am also huge into VW/Audi. Currently I dailya B5 A4 until I get the maintenance done on the D21. Here are some of my other rides.

Sorry for the photodump but I had too haha:D

Now for the questions. So I know these KA's are notorious for their timing chair rattling due to their guides/tensioner and what not but I just want to verify that this is what I am hearing because I can't quite pin point the rattling I am hearing (of course I didn't hear any of this when I test drove it). I hear it for about 3-4 seconds upon start up. But I also hear it around 2500 - 3200 RPM's. Whether its just me or not I cant hear it below or over that rpm range and It seems more "defined" when In gear. Because I keep telling myself the rattle seems more "defined" in gear I am starting to lean towards the transmission/drive shaft area, specifically the u-joint. I notice I can rotate the drive shaft 1/2 an inch more or less by hand. So does anyone have any suggestions? I have checked for anything that might be loose and can't seem to find it and I am going into denial thinking about it being anything internal besides the chain lol. I am also super paranoid when I first get cars until I get my maintenance fix in. Planning on doing the oil, plugs,wires,cap/rotor/ and timing kit regardless so yea. Thanks ahead.

Just curious whoot whoot, what did you pay for that D21? And in what part of the country?

ooooyea. I too am a VW person amongst the Nissan crowd. My Dad's purchase of a new 86.5 in 87 and my fondness of the truck brought me to Nissan for when I was ready for a truck. Good looking rides!
These trucks are tough and not bad on fuel!

I'm not alone! lol

I hope they're tough. Just bought a timing chain kit and got all that done this weekend with exception of a broken thermostat housing. Discovered that after I got everything put back together of course. Hoping to take this bad boy to Milwaukee later on this month so I hope everything holds together!
