When there's bad firmware in a critical system, it always gets fixed by a bulletin or recall. That includes pretty much all the motive and safety systems in the car, ECM, TCM, ABS, AWD, ADAS, Airbag, Radars. They're very diligent about that, and as an owner you can access all those bulletins via NHTSA. If there's no bulletin then chances are the software you have is fine even if it isn't the latest. The ones which make me nuts are instances like the HVAC firmware in your '14, which had some obvious deficiencies in the way it split the airflow on 10% or so of the cars, BUT, the unit wasn't CAN-reprogrammable. So even if I wanted to do something for you, I couldn't because it wasn't fixable. We actually had a couple of buybacks over that. Silly but true.
