So I have been taking care of some little things for about week to get the car just runnig right. Plus it helps that I work at AutoZone now.
First thing I did was timing; checking the dizzy to make sure in proper placement and set the motor to TDC. Then using my timing light i set the timing to 15degrees advanced.
Image
Image
Image

Then I jacked the car up and set up on stands to check the underside for cancer... found some :squint:
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Well its not to bad, its all in the same general area :tisk:

Then I turned my car on while on the jack stands to find the exhaust leaks
found'em
the gaskets between the cat are both shot and the muffler has a huge whole in it
Image
Image
Image
Thats what happens when you use liquid gasket for and exhaust

So I then took the exhaust off then the cat and realized that the cat was punched out completely gutted :yesnod
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

So I ordered an new muffler and then i was going to get a new exhaust made but I have 2.5" piping laying around and the current exhaust is already 2.5" just need to cut the sections of piping and add my muffler
First I grinded and sanded the piping to rid the surface rust
Image
Image

Then I cut sections of pipe to mock how I wanted the muffler to sit
Image
Image
Image
Image

Had my dad help out holding the exhaust up while I tack welded the muffler on
Image
Image
Image

Welded everything together, grinded the splatter off, then painted the exhaust with Rustoleum high temp spray paint

Looks pretty good man nice job. Now that you have a welder those frame rots shouldn't be too hard to fix. It looks a lot more manageable than your old car!

yes i had welders for since high school when I made a go-kart for my senior project. but here are some pics of the new hardware and gaskets for the cat and the fitment of the exhaust

The fitment is actually pretty good and doesnt not hang low at all. Im quite pleased.

So after fixing the timing and the exhaust leaks and pulled the spark plugs to check them
cylinder #1 is clean and shiny cylinders #2-4 are all black

well i clean the spark plugs put them back in and started the car... started unplugging the injectors to see if any of them weren't working properly and cylinder one was the problem. When I unplugged #1 ntohing changed but when I unplugged the other injectors the car tried to die. Time for a new injector

So today when I got up i had a couple of hours to kill time until my injector came in at autozone, so I decided to prep my spare diff for welding.
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Took everything apart and sprayed the diff with carb cleaner to rid of all oil residue. Later on im going to heat the spiders gears up with a torch so I will get good penetration when I weld the gears together. :naughty:

I pulled #1 cylinder injector before I left to go get the new one.
Image
Image
Image

Got the new injector; installed with new o-rings and lithium grease.
Plugged in and the car started right up, idling around 1050rpm and purring nicely. :yesnod
Image
Image

Took the car around the block and it would not go over 2500rpm... FML bad MAF sensor. I tried cleaning it with MAF cleaner and installed a brand new filter still no good.
Image
Looks like I will be doing a max speed of 55mph til I get another MAF, well at least there are no more exhaust leaks and the car is running off 4 cylinders now. :inout: :wtf2:

So the last couple of days have been very interesting. I got bored of having an open diff and I have a spare laying around in the garage. So I finished up welding the the diff, painting the housing black and the cover silver, assembling everything back together.

The day I installed the new MAF sensor the car was running perfect but later on in the day I started hearing this weird noise coming the rear driver's side tire. I though it was a loose caliper so I decide to drive home. As Im turning onto the exit to get on the highway... BOOM :tisk: . I thought i blew a tire but when I got out to check the rear driver's side tire came off the car. The lug nuts came off 2 were beside the wheel but I have no idea where the other 2 were at. FML this was at 11pm when this happened. So I called my buddy Mark to come get me and went to to my house and got the jack, some extra lugs and some tools. After about 2 hours of fighting with the car we were only able to put 2 lugs back on. So I slowly drove home and parked it. The next day I picked up headlights, oil, lugs and wheels studs from my job.

Oil change, headlights, wheels studs and new new lug nuts are now installed. Plus the welded diff!

cleaned the diff cover and painted silver
Image

welded the diff and cleaned out all the splatter

reassembled the diff

installin new wheel studs for the one that was stripped and the other that was broken

After that was done I went thru and torqued all the lugs to 120 ft/lbs... can never trust the work of kids you buy your car from when they paint elbrows on the headlights and had them point way up in the air. :tisk: :nono:
Now everything is to my liking and she slides real nice!! :naughty:

Went to EZ-Pull today to pick up random stuff. Only found 3 240s all where pignose and none had there lips... garuantee the lancaster crew got them lol :gapteeth:
But I did find a clean hatch. I did end up getting some non-ABS brake lines, the rear cabin light, and a couple of coolant temp sensors with housings. Plus I found a factory oil cooler that was on a GT-S corolla that I can put to good use.
Image
Image
Image
Image

I also picked up 25ft of 3/16 brake line to finish the rest of the ABS to nonABS conversion and to make a hard line set-up for the hydro ebrake :naughty:

well all i can say is im one lucky person havent worked on the 240 for a little but did manage to roll my dad's explore 4 times and get ejected from the driver's side window... fell asleep driving home  . This is what happens when you only have 30 minutes of sleep for 2 days.

And the reason why I am alive and/ or not paralyzed is becasue i wasn't wearing my seatbelt. When I was thrown out of the truck I landed on my feet and then fell back to my butt.
I walked away with a scratch on my forehead and a small bruise on my leg, that's it!

Just a lil update... had to take the dash off to fix some minor wiring

Then I went to EZ pull and picked up a set of front spindles: took off the dust shield, cleaned them, and then painted with rustoleum high temp black

Then assembled the z32 setup with the 5 lug hubs

Dang man, Glad you're alright after that wreck.

Cars coming along pretty well. How hard is it making your own hardlines? I've been thinking about going this route if it's cheaper than the Chase Bays brake line relocation

Finally got around to taking the ABS out. I managed to remove everything complete with the lines and all the fittings undamaged. :naughty:

Installed the non-ABS lines i got from the junkyard and I installed the z32 brake master cylinder with the proper fitting adapter for the second front brake line.

I also redid the hydro lines for a cleaner look. :yesnod

Then I checked my blower resistor to see why my heat/air is not working, found a rodent nest behind the resistor and the resistor was bad... love suprises :wtf2:

Went to Cecil County Dragway Friday and ran the 240 with a best pass of 15.71 @ 86.91mph... not bad for a SOHC with over 200k miles on it, welded diff, cut ebay lowering springs, and 205 60 15 winter tires in the rear :wtf2: :werd:  :gapteeth:

Well I need to do an update on what's been going on for the last week.
I went to the junkyard to search for an uncracked dash and some other interiors parts but the car that I was going to pull the parts from was getting crushed when I got there  . So I just pulled some manual seatbelts from altima wagon.
Right when I was leaving, junkyard gold, the forklift was dropping off a mint red 1990 hatch. There was only 58xxx on the odometer and there was no body damage or rust.
Image

It was completely stock, even had the sunroof cover with bag but no lip :squint: . Another guy was also getting parts from this has hatch while I pulled the dash, center consule and front seats got everything for $40 :dblthumb: :mike
Image
Image
replaced mine was cracked
Image
Image
Image
took my old crappy broken seat out at the junkyard and installed the 2 new seats... more cushion, more comfort
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

installed the center consule, had to do to trimming so the hydro would clear but still look stockish :werd:

Also picked up rear spindles took them apart just need to remove the bushings and paint

Now for the new suspension. Finally no more bounce, got some D2 coilovers for... you guessed it, FREE :naughty: ! I love working on honda kids cars, they know how to pay you for your work (turbo a 94 4dr accord 70trim custom 2.5" downpipe - 2.25" exhaust makes full boost at 3200k) :werd: . I took those old cut springs and blown struts out and replaced with the new D2s.

New stance, can go lower but need wheels :yesnod
The ride is so much nicer and I can take turns at high speeds without bouncing now :gapteeth:
