Finally bought my 1987 300ZX Turbo, T top with 205,xxx miles on it. Fixed some basic stuff, trunk lock and hood struts. My only unsolved small issue is that the headlights don't turn on, they flip up but don't turn on. I checked the fuses and nothing was blown. Anyone have ideas?

do the headlight come up with the headlight switch? or when you use the flip up switch ont he bash? if the do not come up wiht the swithc stalk I'd look at it as a probable point of failure, it's a common point of failure

It comes up with both, when i turn the knob and put the button on the dash. But could it be that the knob on the column is not turning the lights on?

Have you checked the bulbs? I had a friend with a MR2 think he had a wiring issue with his headlights once, but it turned out that he had somehow blown both bulbs simultaneously.

I would just plan to replace the builbs, the are probably old and tired anyways. If that doesn't work the light stalks were pretty much a 10-12 year part and needed replacement. i had to replace the wipers and the lights stalks on my 84' but new bulbs are the first place to look.

Also if you do not have a history of a timing belt change you need to look into that immediately. I just re-did mine after 11 years (only 21k miles on this one). They recommend every 60k or 10 years, but my water pump was leaking like crazy, cam seals were starting to leak, and every hose was near burting. I have taken very good care of my car since it was brand new so these are all probably issues if you don't have records that it was done.

This will likely cost you but if the timing belt snaps your engine is toast.
