fifth gear is nonexistant!

ok, i was driving down the hiway at about 55mph (i think, it was like 85km/h) with my cruise on, and my fifth gear let go! now i can move the shifter in and out of the spot where fifth used to be. the guy at the local dealer said that it could be my main nut, and my friend and i think its a snap ring. anyhoo, we're going to have the transmission out and apart, (I get to see inside it!!), and i was wondering if theres anything i should do while i have it on the ramps and the transmission dropped. im already planning on filling it up with royal purple gear oil.

Replace the Clutch cover and TOB and take a look at the carrier baring

im stupid, what are tob and carrier bearing?

Throw out baring and the carrier is along the drive shaft where it bolts to the under side of the car. Look for a u joint.
