ok so i bought my 240 about 6 months ago and for the first month it felt like it was doing alright but after 2 weeks of having it it turns into s**t. It feels like its bogging under 3500 rpms and it picks up just a little bit and i go into second and i cant even catch 2nd gear. Pretty much all of my friends with stock ka's can spin 2nd a little bit but mine just feels like its not any power.

here's a list of everything we checked that i can rememberits got good if not perfect compressionits got good fuel pressurechanged oil filterchecked timing, its at 20 advancechanged spark plugs and wireschanged coil packchanged o2 sensorchanged fuel injectorschecked tps and mafchecked coolant temp sensor. all seem to be working right.a mechanic told me that sense my motor has had the timing chain replaced before i bought, theres a possibility that its not marked right but he is out of town until next week and i am VERY eager to find out what it is and fix it

thanks in advance.

Pull out the fuel pump and check the filter connected to it. Thats what was wrong with mine. Got some break cleaner/parts cleaner and sprayed all the gunk off and my car started right up!

Mine had good pressure when not driving, but while on the go you require a lot more gas and with that clog your car doesnt get enough fuel.

but i think if anything its running rich, the compression numbers were 190 if i can remember right. sometimes when im driving on the high way and come to a stop all i can smell is gas.

OK well i went as far as to replace the head gasket! lol, but even then i would have to SLOWLY and i mean SLOWLY give the mother f#cker gas otherwise it would start sputtering and die. So i get on any road after doing this and the fastest i can go is like 45mph... it SUCKS. AND DIES. Several times. Finally my buddy suggested to do what i told you and BAM! problem solved. Besides it wont hurt you to take the 30mins to check it. now will it?

Start with the easy stuff first and the fuel filter attached to the pump and also the inline fuel filter in the engine bay are a good place to start, if that yeilds no results and you want to check to see if the timing is correct remove the valve cover and set the 1# piston to TDC on the compression stroke and both cam lobes should be pointing straight out.

thanks for all the inputs guys im about to check my fuel pump now and i guess the next step would be to check the timing, do you guys think it could be the cars ecu that could be faulty?

Anything is possible however faulty ecu's are generaly pretty rare and I would exhaust all other options before considering replacing the ecu.

i havent realle had the chance to check anything just yet because of teh snow and work in all. yea i know what your talking about with the ecu. i was just considering it because maybe after 224,000 miles it might be just old. im not sure if the owner who had it before me replaced the ecu when he switched motors

high mileage will slow down a ka, maybe time for a rebuild. Id say check your fuel lines make sure there is no leak anywhere, mine would do that when i had leak
