This week I installed AMS's Adjustable suspension kit and changed out the front lower control arm bushings for Poly bushings. Got to align the car myself today with some help of some trained techs at my friends hot rod shop. The whole car aligned perfectly and the adjustable suspension was really easy to dial in. Until I got to the right front caster. the caster was showing a 5.5 despite the wheel looking really centered in the wheelwell. The left front was perfect in specs at 10. If I tried to get the right front to match the left, the wheel would just get pushed into the fender heavily and it was almost impossible to achieve. I know this isn't the result of a crash as my alignment before all these adjustable parts had a perfect caster of 9 on both sides. This problem is probably something I caused while installing the suspension kit. Its just past my knowledge what specifically could have done this. If anyone has any ideas or possibly fixes I could try out please let me know! Thanks guys. First post here

AMS parts are garbage, if you have not done anything else other than install the AMS parts; well there is your problem.

You sure you got the strut seated right in the holder? Everything in its right spot?

Yes, I didn't have to move the strut for this, I wasn't changing them out at the same time. As for the rest of the suspension I did mess with, everything looked to be in the right spot. I'm new to the Z suspension so I don't know what components are symmetrical or require to go in a very certain way.

It could be the upper control arm is in wrong. The AMS are similar in looks to the Powertrix arms I installed on mine, and the instructions that came with them were very specific as to which direction and orientation in which they were installed.

When those fail, you may want to upgrade to Powertrix, they are more money, but the quality is definitely worth the price.

Is there anywhere I could find the instructions for installing the powertrix upper control arms? I hope these don't fail and I've heard they are good for their price although not the best. Ive modified all my cars before this and these do seem to be good quality parts, but only time will tell I guess.

POst pics on how they are installed. Some of us have installed these and could tell you if its in the wrong orientation.

BTW, you your caster is set by the tensions rods, not so much by the control arms. The control arms control camber. Did you change the tension rod or are they stock?

Im going to be taking a look at it tomorrow and ill take a photo then of all the parts I put in. I do have adjustable tension rods, but to get the caster into spec it basically shoves the wheel into the wheelwell(toward the rear). The guys that helped me align my car at a shop thought it might be something out of whack in the upper part of the suspension. I know nothing on the car is bent since I aligned the car just before installing all the parts and the caster was perfect.

The install looks good. Personally, i would take it to another alignment tech. Its possible the tech may not know how to properly adjust everything in the correct order. I believe the correct order is caster, camber, toe. I know toe is always last. If he has never done a lowered car(assuming you are lowered), it can be discerning because he will need to get close to the numbers, it will not ride good in stock position or it may not go back into stock position(numbers).

Since you have all adjustable except lower control arms, it should go to a good number, not way off like he is saying it is.

Hey NonTTZ, Did you figure out what was the issue? I have something very similar in my Skyline GTR R32. I have left side front tire pulled forwarded compared to the right side. Was able to get them at 5 degrees with adjustable tension rods but left is further forward then the right to get them close on the rack. Car is driving straight right now but I band-aid the issue. I have replaced the lower control arms, Upper control arms and tension rods and still no go.
