Can the exhaust plug wires be disconnected without causing an issue? Anything need to be done to the cap in order to just run the intake plugs?

no problem, simply disconnect the coil that controls that set of plugs. You should physically disconnect the control wires on that coil, tape them up out of the way. You could either leave ask the plug wires in place (I would), or remove them altogether.

So just pull the coil wire, disconnect that coil and pul the plug wires and tape over the contacts on the cap and it should be good to go?

i don't personally know anyone who has done it... but i'm sure someone has

the reason not many do is because the exhaust plugs don't hurt the performance in any way shape or form... in fact they *can* help it with the proper timing

with your current problem i can see why you want to try it though

The extra set of plugs (which by the way are on the intake side) are solely for emission and are controlled by the ECM under the seat. If you need smog tests don't disconnect them cause you will fail. Under hard acceleration the ECM shuts off the intake side plugs for maximum advance to achieve maximum power. Hope I'm no too late to be of assistance. :ohno:

:wtf2: when i was running on 1 coil (84 z24 carb 720 ) it ran like chit and would cause the whole truck to shake or shimmy . and the gas millage went to chit , perhaps it was the intake side that i had un plugged but i wanna say i tryed both ways and thats why i ended up bridging the 2 coils . need more posts for other people experience on this

I'm only firing one of the two plugs. But then again, that one plug is fired by an MSD6AL with a blaster SS coil at .044" Milage went up 3 MPG's with the MSD and idles a lot smoother.
