EX35 Gear Shifter Stuck

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

EX35 Gear Shifter Stuck

Postby Hurk » Sun Sep 01, 2019 11:15 am

My 2010 gear shifter when pulling out I’d park sticks. I plull the trigger and I can’t move the shifter I try it multiply times the it works. Sometime works right away then times I don’t think I’ll be able to shift. Any ideas.

My 2008 does the same thing sometimes. If I step on the brake once or twice that does the trick. Read something online about what's wrong and how to fix, but I just step on the brakes...

I tried that doesn’t seem to help. Maybe my switch, brake switch? Needs replacing? My vehicle is going in for 96 Kim service (all fluids ouch) so I’ll have them have a look at it.

Ouch, that's going to hurt alright. :poke: Mine is going to need it's 150K before too long, but I'm afraid I have to sell mine soon. :frown: Bummer that pumping the brake a couple times doesn't work. I wish I could remember what the info I found online (YouTube?) said, but I think you might be right that it was the brake switch. Maybe if you Google that you can find it? Good luck!

Hi, my 2017 QX50 seems to have a similar problem, has anyone else been able to figure what is wrong yet? It takes multiple attempts on the lever to switch gear sometimes.

There's a gear shifter lock release to the left of the shifter, I think it has a cover over it. A tool that came with the car (I think it was packed in the boot with the spare tire) can be used to unlock the shifter. I had to use it once or twice myself. If you don't have the tool, I think a small screwdriver will work. Here's a link to what you're looking for: http://www.infiguide.com/infodata-1027.html

Lots of N/I models use the same basic Shift Lock setup as the infamous L33 Altima, and can have the same problem with the Park Solenoid Switch. It happens most frequently in the L33 only because that shifter uses a more powerful solenoid coil than most others. You'll need to consult the wiring diagram for your own ride, but on models using the same setup, the Brake Switch and Park Solenoid switch are really the only two causes. You can eliminate or incriminate the Brake Switch by watching the brake lamps, if they come on normally but the car still won't shift then the Brake Switch isn't the cause. Many of the Park Solenoid Switches can be fixed DIY in the same manner as the L33. See this post for both an explanation and a how-to:
