Is it easier to remove just the engine, leaving the transmission in place?

It depends on the vehicle, but I like to pull them both out on my S14. I've found that trying to get the motor back into the bay and lined up with the motor mounts is hard enough. Trying to ALSO get it to line up with the transmission is a HUGE pain and it's easier to do them together.

Z32 can be a pain. Very tight. I would recomend buying an engine lever to connect to cherry picker/hoist and remove and install together. Sure can be done either or. Just my opinion how i do it.

Yea, an engine leveler is a MUST if you want to pull with the trans still attached. DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE SHIFTER! LOL, the first time I ever did it, I completely forgot about the shift lever and screwed up the interior of my car because it was still attached.

Lol..wht a rude awakening. Other than the trans mounting bolts, the shifter link was the first to go. So but the engine leveler ...couldn't I just use slingers? And does anyone have a link to where I can find a leveler. I Googled it but it showed something else. But I didn't dig too deep. Was at work. Also...another quick question. I'm pulling the engine to get to the bearings (bottom end) . Is it practical or doable to replace the bearings without pulling the motor/transmission assembly? No car lift available but its sitting on cinder blocks. About a foot off the ground. Thanks in advance pros ..

This is what I have;

As for doing it in the car, you can only get to the rod bearings safely. I've heard about spinning the mains out and around the crankshaft and sliding the new ones in, but I'd be very surprised if that could be pulled off with out damaging the bearing or the crankshaft.
