I'm having problems starting my car and was wondering if anyone had any possible ideas. The car currently has 95K miles on it.

I tried starting up the car the other day but it would not start up. The engine was cranking but not turning over. I knew that the battery needed replacing soon (original battery that is over 6 years old) so I bought a new battery and installed it. Afterwards it would seem like the car would sputter briefly but then die. I also knew that I have had problems in the past with long cranking times so I decided to also replace the fuel pump regulator. The fuel pump was priming just fine and I hooked it up to a tube to make sure that fuel was being pumped out. I took out the fuel pump and replaced the regulator and put everything back. I then tried starting the car again and it seems like it starts but it is just rumbling for a few seconds until i turn off the car.

Did not read any codes with my OBD bluetooth device. I did have some codes for the fuel pump sensors after I had replaced the regulator but I assume those were just from unplugging the fuel pump (cleared them and they did not come back). I'm not sure what the problem could be at this point. Does anyone have any ideas?

Would like to give an update. Tried starting the car today and it started a little rough but fine otherwise. I tried a few more times afterwards and it started up just fine each time. It seems like the pressure was the problem but I just had to wait some time before starting it up. Maybe I did not prime long enough for sufficient fuel pressure to be in the lines?

The only thing I could suggest is to run some fuel system cleaner through it.

Sorry, wish I had more advice for you.

If the car has not been used for more than 2 days the fuel pressure bleeds off and it is hard to start. The best thing is to turn on the ignition, wait 5 seconds and then try to start the car. If I don't wait and let the fuel pump pressurize the fuel rails after the car has been sitting for a few days it will not catch and run; if I wait 5 secs it starts fine.
