engine knocking and now not turning over
My girlfriend was given a learning car from her parents, for graduation about a year ago, one day it started making a small knocking noise and would not stop when the car was off. A couple of days later I was driving and the knocking got loud so I pulled over and had the car towed to her house. Her dad changed the oil and ever since the car no longer starts. I donot know that much about cars, but am thinking it may be the pistons. If anyone has any other input it would be great. She is looking for a used engine for it now, but wanted to keep in mind if it maybe anything else. When we had it taken to the machanic it was not a top priority to them and they just said the engine had no compression. The car is a 1990 Q45, and was given an oil change about almost two months prior. The car had around 125,000 miles on it and the a couple of months prior the rpm's seemed to jump as well as the idometer would sometimes stop. The car prevously belonged to her parents friend, a dentist that use to commute to work around 60 or so miles a day. Thanks!
"The engine had no compression" Huh? On all 8 cylinders? Is that because they couldn't get it to turn over? Do a NICO search on "cha*in gu*ides" without the asterisks--it's the achilles heel of the early Q45s. I wonder if maybe the engine jumped time a couple teeth, and then jumped some more. Any other work done on the car in the past 5-6000 miles? 125k is only half the life I would expect from most of these cars, aside from the guide problem.
