I have an 02 Maxima that started to exhibit a weird problem. When I hit the gas a little harder than normal or try to go into higher RPMsthe engine starts bogging, and there is a deffinite loss in performance. The car has approx. 43,000mi on it. I don't have the CES light on or anything like that. I run it on super all the time. I am thinking - Bad Gas but may be someone else has experienced the same trouble and it is something else.

Sounds like the MAF. It's a problem part in our cars.

Can MAF be a problem w/o CES going on?

Is it possible that the problem can come and go at different times, because today it seems to run fine.

OK, now I'm 99% convinced it's your MAF.

Be sure to check for vacuum leaks also.

If you decided to get a new one try this first. Something you can try is to go to Radio shack and get electronic circuit cleaner. Make sure it wont harm any electronics. I took out my MAF and cleaned it with this stuff regularly. WARNING Be very very careful with this jewel its delicate. Treate it with care like your defusing a bomb type of delicate. The can of cleaner i have has a stiff brush that i run up and down and inside real careful. I dont force it in just "easily manuver the MAF into the brush brisles. Make sure its dry before startign the car with it in. It dries fairly fast.

Make sure all connections are snugg. Sometimes i take the connections on and then off a few times to ensure contact.

This is for the MAF. But like Maxhopper said i would also check vaccum lines.

Fezzik has a good idea, however DO NOT use the brush on the MAF element. Use it on the housing, but not the element!!

i've actually used it on the element, but you have to be extra cautious when doing it. lets just say i let my father do it the first time since he's the electrical engineer.
