Hello,
First I'll start from the beginning to end. A few weeks ago me and some friends went to the drag track and when I shifted during the drag it was all fine, I maxed it to red line and all. But a few days ago I changed my tie rods and flushed my power steering fluid. I took out the MAF sensor and the intake filter to get a better angle at the hoses. When I put everything back into place, it doesn't seem to be having any trouble starting up / running.
A couple days ago I was running a straight line drag against some guy with an RSX and as soon as I hit 5,000 RPM I heard some backfiring and it just killed my turbo. The car didn't stall or anything, it just lost power after 5,000 RPM. I talked to a few mechanics, and they said since I fiddled with the MAF sensor it most likely is the problem. So they told me to disconnect the battery and check the MAF sensor and reset the car ECU. I did that and drove the car normally for about 10 - 15 mins, and when I rev the car to 5,000 RPM on second gear, it still cuts off and blew some crazy sound. I didn't look back to see what color smoke it was, but it drives fine below 5,000 rpm.
My engine is the s14 sr20det, I read up a lot on this issue, most people would say: change the MAF sensor / spark plugs / fuel pump / reservoir. Anyone that had this problem and fixed it, please give me the cure! Any suggestion is fine, but i don't want to fiddle with anything that isn't the problem. So please don't just throw random things for me to check up on, thanks.
am going to take the turbo apart in a few more days to see what's wrong with it. It might be a boost leak; each time I use the boost now it seems to be lagging a lot and stutters. If anything I'll just have to buy a front mount inter-cooler and see how that plays out. Hope it's not the gasket :/
And also, not it doesn't backfire at high rpm, around 3 - 4 RPM it does that now, seems like it's descending its **** up time.
