AAC is IAC idle air control, extra added percentage, should be 10-15% at warmedup idle.

A better test would be at 2,000 rpm [exactly 60 mph] on the road.

Need rpm, maf, coolant temp, ignition, inj time, adaptive learn both banks, O2 both

I dont' see "adaptive learn both banks" what is that?

What duration do you need the log for? 10 seconds, 1 minute, etc?

They call it A/F Base short and long term L and R.

100% means that the cruising O2 is switching at a normal rate and combustion is near 14.7 AF ratio.

Ok, did the 60 mph run. This one is with my 1993 NICO stage 1 ECU. Here's the screen shot. The A/F Base gauges were all at 100 most of the time although during this shot they were off a bit. Tire size is apparently skewing the speed numbers as the speedo said 60 but ECU talk didn't. Anything look suspect?

All that jumps out is the very weird high timing number and the injector time is ~~ double what it should be for 60 mph cruise [1.8-2.2 miliisecs is normal NOT 3.6 as shown in log ????????????????

Timing number seems to be a bug in the software as everyone's seeing high numbers around 50. What would cause the injector time to be that high? Would the knock sensor(s) being out cause that? And I assume that would cause the emisison failure. I guess I'll put my stock ECU back in and see what it looks like in the same test. Maybe the knock may on the NICO ECU is doing that.

Here's another road test tonight with the stock ECU with the bad knock sensor bypassed with a 560K resistor. Kept checking for the knock code to come back on but it never did so I think I've got that fooled for the time being. This test was at 60mph/2000 rpm. Looks pretty much the same as the NICO ECU with the knock code on in it.

Try swapping in a KNOWN good MAF and run tests again. The injectors will follow the MAF and that 2.2 volts is too high for 60 mph cruise.Also need ambient air temperature during test and altitude.

Maf shoud be 1.4-1.9 volts and injector 1.8-2.4 millisecs. at 60 depending on air temperature and altitude.................nearer the bottom of the range above is more likely.

It gets very critical and an error of even 0.1 volts is significant.

I would get A REAL CONSULT just to check ignition advance and the accuracy of the other parameters.

Went in for my emission retest today and passed easily. In case anyone has similar trouble here's what I did. Obviously I don't know which one thing did the trick but I think some are more likely than others.

1. ECU had a knock fault code. I have new knock sensors but managed to bypass the faulty one with a 560K resistor. The bad one was measuring all over the spectrum depending on the engine temp. Was around 900K all the way up to 25 meg ohms. A new knock sensor is about 500-600K ohms. Anyway, after installing the resistor in place of the knock sensor the code never came back on. In case you are going to "knock me" for bypassing that, I already have the new sensors and the complete under plenum kit to go on. It's just the end of the month and needed a quick fix to get past emissions

2. Swapped my NICO ECU for the original stock one. Can't say if this was needed or not, just did it because I had it.

3. Cleaned MAF sensor

4. Did all the tests for O2 sensors, EGR system, TPS, and MAF (was ok but cleaned it anyway).

5. The car had been sitting for a while so the gas was a little old so I ran that tank out and at about 1/4 tank I added a bottle of FI cleaner. When tank was empty I filled up with 91 octane fuel (best we have here in AZ unless you get racing fuel).

6. Also, removed my cone filter w/maf adapter and installed my custom/home made CAI to move the air filter outside the engine bay. I doubt this had anything to do with passing.

Results:First reading, Second Reading, AllowedHC 2.20, 0.15, 0.80CO 76.77, 2.13, 12.00NOX 0.12, 0.81, 2.00

So the HC and CO dropped by a huge amount and the NOX increased slightly. What a huge relief!

Thanks for everyones help, especially you Q45Tech! Oh, and Tech, I did have to write down what I did. You can do it yourself but they still want to know what you did to fix it and put down costs if any.

I don't know what changes are made to the non-stock ECU but clearly fuel and timing are changed. I'd bet a buck that is what caused the failure, non-stock ECU.

Glad its fixed, but it seems like you went through alot of trouble when a computer swap would have solved the problem in minutes.

The reason the chipped WOT [high load] parameters are only adjusted above 3,000 rpms is to avoid messing with closed loop and the emission measurement rpm range.

This was how the JWT was given a CARB passing sticker no effect on emissions across the normal test and max legal cruise speed on highway.

Our newest tech [former Furd Police Car expert] bought a Q for $500 he has been fixing it back to life..............bad MPG low power, finally we changed the cats and exhaust from a junker we had....................immediately more power and 3 mpg better.

Obviously the previous car had problems in dying a clean respectable death and partially melted both primary cats not blocked just restricted.

No codes nothing looked abnormal......... just no balls..........this was the Q that got a 1000watt stereo sounds almost as good as my oem Bose. but definely louder.

As the tech learned free junker parts are good.

We change so few cats it often slips the memory.
