electronics tinkering

i was bored the other day so i started this project.i have and since i know a little about electronics i figured i would use some of my knowledge and see if i could come up with anyting cool. I decided i would try to make a headlight controller (to control the height the heads pop up) and here is what ive got so far.



i know it doesent look like much but here is what it is. i went down to radioshack and picked out my goods i bought a 2 color led to represent the headlight motor, a couple resitors, a potentiometer, a couple capacitors, a 555 timer, a waffle board and some wires. what i did was i used a 555 timer to make a monostatic multivibrator circut so that one pulse of a lenght which is dictated by the resistance (adjustable using the potentiometer) and on the imput pulse (a switch being flicked on/off real fast like a push button) the motor will move for the specified amount of time. the prototype works and hopefully i can get my hands on a multi meter so that i can run some tests on the car tomorrow.
