Hmmm I remember reading about this in a few spots. An electric fan is pretty much useless. Here is one of the writeups.

I run the Flex-a-lite black magic 150 fan. I'll post up some pics for you later when I get a chance. At the time when I got it (4 years ago) it flowed the most CFM for its size and outflows the Z1 fan. It can be had from Summit Racing for a very good price btw.

I would hardly consider an e-fan useless. They can free up quite a bit of room in front of the engine making some work much easier, which I find to be a huge benefit. When done right, they have absolutely no affect on the engine when you are at speed as they are not on... a mechanical fan however is always there. The fan itself may not be spinning but you do still have the clutch, which is excess weight that can be removed from the engine (yes, I know it is not much weight but any weight lost is... weight lost, and rotational weight too. You may not see a power increase but it may make your engine a bit more responsive i.e. think lightened flywheels and crank pulleys).

But anyway... I find the biggest benefit is the increase in room in the engine bay, that is always a great thing to have. Also, getting rid of that nasty mechanical fan sound is a nice bonus as well.

Any and all rotating mass on an engine will have an effect on power. I have personally installed many e-fans and on each and every install I noticed an immediate difference not in power output, but in throttle response. There are a few more hp there but the main benefit is increased throttle response, just like a lightweight flywheel. Better for street driving? Probably not but I enjoy the increased power. Better for track? DEFINATELY!

Not sure exact needed, but I did read on here that the LIncoln Mark VIII puts out 4500 to 5000 CFM which should be more than enough. It's a 18" fan there would modification needed.
