I finally replaced a bad injector after the car had been sitting for months. after turning key on, I noticed alot of gas running out from underneath, but none coming from the injectors...I followed the trail up the back of engine to the EGR valve!! when i squeezed the diaphragm I got a hand full of gas. Never heard of that before....any ideas?? thanks guys.. awesome site

What lines did you disconnect in order to replace the injector?

Double-check the your fuel supply and return, and vacuum line connections.

I did not remove any lines. changed injector only, without removing intake.it was an easy job..the car has just sat a while.

Wow!

In order to replace one injector it must have been necessary to relieve the pressure and disconnect supply of gas to the the fuel rail and the injectors. And in warm weather the system will sort of re-pressurize itself, even with the filler cap loosened.

How long did you have the one injector out of the car?

Did you also replace both o-rings along with the new injector?

Did you crank the engine or just turn ON the ignition?

I wonder if the plenum is filled with gas? How about a photo of your EGR valve?

Well since the car had been sitting a while, the battery was dead, there was no pressure in the fuel system. I already knew which injector it was, so i took it out, had it out about a day before i replaced it. However, I did not use new o-rings!! But like I said, no leaks around injector. I only turned key on to build pressure. Thats when I noticed all the gas. after a bit of time.. I bet it is full of gas cause, the exhaust pipes on both sides had gas running out of them.. could it be the O-rings? Do they seal off on the inside,( with small O-ring) in fuel rail too? New ones are ordered..I'll try and take some pics soon...thanks for all your help..

I recently removed my plenum, fuel rail, injectors, etc.

To first relieve pressure on the fuel system, I started the engine and then pulled the fuel pump fuse. It didn't take long for the engine to die. Then I disconnected the battery and the fuel line connections to the plenum/fuel rail, and started pulling things apart.

The next day (a warm one) I lifted the hood of the car and found things soaked in gasoline, so I attached a hose to loop the fuel line connections and loosened the gas cap (the thing hissed, indicating pressure).

During the time that you had the one injector out of the engine, there was an opening in the system and gas must have been flowing, at least into the one cylinder.

If the two re-used o-rings weren't damaged, compressed and age/temperature-hardened, they might be ok, BUT the fuel rail openings and inlets to the injectors sit between the two o-rings. If a small o-ring is bad, gas will leak into the cylinder (not visible) and if a big one is bad it will leak onto the intake manifold (visible).
