ECU test?

Is there a way to test to see if an ECU is good or not off the car?

its hard to tell sometimes if its gone bad while on the car, when mine went bad my egi relay ( fuel pump relay ) wasn't working. but it still read code 55 which is "everythings good".

easiest way to test is to borrow a friends who has a same body style 240sx and use their ECU to test. or get one from a junkyard for $50-100, sometimes their as low as $20-30. But as far as testing off the car I dont know of any methods.
