Had some time the other day to pull the ecu and check for codes on the 94... got one for the ECT sensor and knock sensor.... there is no noticeable indication that anything is wrong with the car....

Do I have a period of time I can go without replacing both parts...I would like to do it sometime next year along with plenum hoses and possible valve cover re-seal...

I am going to check the ECU on the 90 this weekend....it too seems to be running just fine...

...it took some guts to pull that harness off the ecu, fearing that it might not be put back together correctly....

Yeah... Pulling the ECU harness is kinda scary at first!!! After a few times it all works together like clock work!

ECT sensor?? Whats that?

You can hold off on the knock sensor for a while..... But I wouldnt wait too long because it runs rich under bad knock sensors and that leads to cat failure (eventually).......

Youll be able to tell the difference once you get the KS replaced!

ECT Sensor = ECTS = Engine coolant temperature sensor in the 94 manual. Both are on the same sub harness. You might check it's connection on the top end, but it's a common failure item. Check out my thread on ohm testing the knock sensors...

If the ECTS truely isn't working (or getting a signal to the ECU) you're running rich, since the ECU is staying in the enrichment warm-up cycle. Like Wes said, that with bad knock sensors can mean bad things for your cats.

Oh.... Duh!! Brain fart!!!

I may just replace all 3 of my temp sensors when I do the plenum...... They probably arent too expensive!!

I remember one of them was about $70! (May have been the CA-model temp sensor though.) Did 2 sensors in March, and one last year. The sensor just fore of the plenum is difficult to get out cause the runner's in the way. Definitely do that one when you do the plenum. 19mm hex body as I recall.
