My Question really was do I need to install a Cat or does the new header cut the Oem Cat out?

OMG! So funny! I just bought the same stuff! Headers will be here in a couple days and I was wondering the same thing! I'm gonna go with a test pipe. Thanks for asking and good luck, homie!

I will go with the test pipe too. I live Lower Alabama, the local authorities aren't even aware that emissions testing exists.

Lets make a picture post of the install in this thread.

The Parts are finally starting to show up, So here is the first batch to arrive.

XTD Stage 2

3" Cat Back(This thing is a bit excessive, I have dual 2.5" on my camaro and thought that was cool.)

Notice the nice dent next to the bracket, I think that is to help increase air flow.

My Header Just got here, It has an output of 2.5" and my cat back is 3". do they make a cat that has an input of 2.5 and and output of 3, or should I get the flanges and fab up my own?

i speak on experience of installing the following on some S13s.

with the exhaust you might expect to get fitment issues towards the rear of the car. expect one or two exhaust hangers not to line up (JDM Sport Exhaust from EBAY).

XTD clutch has a very wishy washy break in period. sometimes it doesnt hold WOT too well either. its stiff, dont get me wrong. however, it has difficulty placing power in the driveline.

you could just get a 3" testpipe, the flanges will still work on your header

I have a 3" testpipe, it is bolted up to my stock manifold and stock catback for now..... it also bolts up to my aftermarket header no problem.... and It would bolt up best to a 3" catback... which you already have

you will have no problem with the different sizes, its a standard nissan style flange with the same bolt pattern so it all lines up.....

I didn't see any pictures of the test pipe do you have one of it installed? How Loud is this setup? If it is annoyingly loud, does the stock cat fit inline with the setup?

I would quit asking so many questions, it has just been poring rain since all my parts started getting here(have no garage )and I am getting stir crazy waiting to put the parts on the car.

thats what it looks like, although mine didn't have studs I don't know WTF that is for.......

it bolts to the header, then the other side bolts to the catback, the cat is completely removed.......

I just completed the Ebay Exhuast and Ran into a few Surprises during the install.

1. The OEM Exhuast had more holes than Strainer. The thing was not even connected past the cat, and from what i have read, there is supposed to be a resonator after the cat, and there wasn't even a pipe.

2. The Stock cat has a 3" inlet and Outlet and the previous owner had it hollowed out.

3. The Old Header had been removed, I could tell by the sheared off front bolt , not to mention that 3 of the bolts where only hand tight.

anyone know why they might of had to take the header off in the past? maybe to rebuild the block or something?

Here are a few more picks of the one deal

Maybe my next post will be, "How Do I fix my wrinkled up drivers side quarter panel"

This setup, even without the Fugly Silencer, I quieter than the busted stock exhaust I started with....At least inside the car, I am sure behind me it is much louder. But for some reason, it went from sound like the nissan pickup truck to sounding like a motorcycle:( I guess that is the way it is with a small displacement rice burner, but i am not complaining, It is much faster than my old camaro, thats fo sho.

Is it that bad? the XTD Clutch? Some people say they are great, some say they are Okay and some say they are total Junk. Have you tried one and been burned by the experience? If so what happened? Does the pressure plate not hold the right amount of pressure, does the clutch disk fall apart, or does it just feel crappy when driving it?

I got this car back in April and the clutch was bad then, now it is really bad. I have driven other manuals in the past and will say this one is very different than all of them. The clutch only has to be barely touched to disengage it where other cars you have to depress the petal quiet a bit to get it to disengage. The petal is real easy to push, easier than the gas and about equal to the brake while the car is running. TMI but tell me your experience, and tell me what I should expect once it is done right.

I have the finally have the Header installed, the cat-back is on, the XTD Clutch is in, Pain-in-the-everything to do, and we are back on the road. I have not had a chance yet to Open it up but i will say it has a whole lot more forward force than it did. The header gives it much better throttle response and it sounds like a helicopter coming down the road. I got a chance to ride behind to see if it sounded the same way and it does. Over all, I am pleased with this setup. My only concern is the Clutch pedal is very easy to operate. In the past it was rather difficult. I used White Lithium grease on the throw out bearing rider and all the moving Joints, replaced the slave and master cylinder and flushed out the fluid and replaced with Dot5 brake fluid. Now the Clutch feels very similar to the 350z's Stock clutch and my friends celica clutch. Maybe it was very stiff because it was old . Recommendation; pulling the transmission is a 2 person Job! I pulled it on my own with a atv jack, putting it in took some help.

Here are a few more pics

Break-in is over and over all the clutch is stiff, the only thing is when you let the clutch pedal out while the engine is at high rpm it doesn't feel like it is grabbing until you let the rpm come down a bit. Some more pics of the Chitta Project
