I just got my 2008 Rogue SL AWD with the Premium Package in Wicked Black w/black cloth interior 2 weeks ago. I love it & I'm really happy with it's performance on the road so far.

I can accept that dings, chips and scratches are inevitable & an eventuality, but my Rogue already has several bad scratches and this morning I noticed there's a chip in my hood. It seems like just touching it with my bare skin scratches it... Even the Patriot Blue PT Cruiser that I traded in (known for having a paint issue) would chip easily bit didn't scratch easily. I've never had a new car that's gotten scratched so much and so easily within the first few months that I had it, and my Rogue has as many within just these 2 weeks. Before the PT Cruiser I had a 1992 Nissan NX2000 and the paint seemed quite durable. It didn't scratch easily at all.

Is there anyone else out there having a similar experience?

I just noticed today I have a few scratches here and there, especially around the inside of the door handles. Nothing too terrible though. It looks like it's just scratching the clear coat. The paint seems fine to me though.

had a g35, and now the rogue.

Nissan has used some CHEAP paint lately. The g35 had so many chips and scratches the paint was like water colors. Same with the rogue. Its just nissan

I would be careful with those kits. I also belong to the Azera forums. Some of the members had all kinds of problems with them, mostly concerning the original installation. Also mentioned was the difficulty in cleaning the covered area if the bra had to be removed/replaced. Check it out carefully before buying.

i also have a wicked black and find the paint to get easily scratched and show swirl marks. i avoid nails touching to my exterior and try to wipe off gently when washing and drying.

If you wanted to see scratches and paint chips, all you had to do is look at the front bumper on my Altima. Personally, I do not think Nissan's paint (on the Rogue) is any worse than what I have seen previuosly or from othe mfg's. An one repaint I had done looked beautiful but was so soft it would get damaged by bird droppings within hours.

So far I have few if any scratches. I fully expect the door handle area and front bumper to get well scratched and dinged. Honestly this is normal. It's happened to every car I've owned or driven. Nissan, Ford, Mazda, VW, etc.

If your paint is peeling off, you need to take it in and get it fixed under warranty. As for scratches and chips, if you own a black car, you are going to notice these more than any other color. I speak from experience as I've owned 5 black cars. currently I have 2 black vehicles and yes, they show everything from swirl marks to chips to light scratches. That is one reason we decided on the Pearl white color for the Rogue.

If you own a black Rogue, here are some suggestions to keeping it looking good:

- NEVER GO TO A CAR WASH. The brushes and the over used rags they used for drying cars can put a lot of light scratches in the paint.

- When washing by hand, always make sure you are using a clean, good conditioned, non-abrasive sponge or cloth. I only use the wool mit or microfibre mit to wash and a chamois for drying.

- If you drop your sponge, mit, or chamois on the ground, make sure to rinse it off thourougly. One tiny little pebble can put scratches all over your car.

- Avoid washing your car in direct sunlight, especially on a windy day. Black cars absorb heat and therefore dry quick, leaving spots. Keep rinsing off areas you have already washed during the wash.

- Use plenty of soap and rinse the car off thoroughly before wasing to get rid of dust particles which can be abrasive. On a light color car, you wouldn't notice the fine scratches that could be caused by dust rubbing on paint, but on a black car, everything shows!!

Black is the most beautiful color on a car in my opinion, but requires a lot more attention to detail and a gentle touch. Just be careful and your paint will last.

Here's what you need:

Zaino Z5

This will protect your car's paint and hide swirl marks better than anything. I use Zaino products on my Rogue, and the paint is silky smooth and mirror-like. They make some amazing stuff.

I have a Wicked Black, and I have the paint issue too. This particular interstate I drive on is in below average condition. Every now and then I can hear the sand and pebbles hitting my car, and the dust gets picked up by the construction going on. I hand-washed my car recently and found small chips already. And yeah, I got the swirl marks too... it gets on my nerves.

No problems with the paint so far.. Can't wait until it warms up to clean up the car properly myself. If you are having problems with scratching try Scratch Doctor by Nu-Finish. I have been using this stuff for about a years and it really works well. Follow it up with some Nu-Finish Polish which I have been using for too many years. It's the longest lasting stuff I have ever used.

No self healing paint. That honour is reserved for the new Infiniti EX.
