I had a car tinted years and years ago (I think I'm old enough to be all yall's parents ). I remember paying about $250 in the 80's to tint a 2-door hatchback (That would be a 1984 Ford EXP since I'm sure none of you have ever seen one) Anyway what I remember was that it was expensive, I could barely see thru it at night, it all turned purple after one summer. Oh yeah, after the 4th or 5th time I got pulled over for it, I pulled all the film off. Now I have the Versa, and it seems to get real hot in the back where my daughter rides, and I'm sick of that stupid roll up sun-shade that falls off after a while anyway so I was thinking of having the windows tinted. I don't even know what to ask for, are the %'s people throw around here availabe anywhere, or just "good" shops? (The place I went to only had "Limo" and "OEM" that honestly didn't look any different than regular windows). How long will it last before it turns purple? How about finding out how dark I can go without being pulled over? Lots of questions. THank youOh and

it really depends on where you go... generally you'll find 50, 35, 25, 20, and 5. The films are a lot better now, and dont fade as easily... but whatever shop you go to, ask them what theyre gaurantees are about fading and purpling and the such. I have my shops in house film, which is gauranteed never to purple. Do your research... i paid $180 to tint the entire car including the two little windows.

check out that site for your local tinting laws, which whatever shop you choose should inform you about to. Good luck and let me know if you need anything else.

Here in VA Beach, you can get a mid-size sedan tinted for around $180 or so with a lifetime guarantee never to peel, crack, bubble, or fade (turn purple).

the ford EXP is a rebadged escort (first gen?), right? like a predecessor to the escort GT, a more sport styled trim level than that of the standard escort.

style-wise, it looks to compare with the celica hatch or upgraded supra hatch (before the supra became its own model in its own right) of the day. maybe also like the accord of those days as well.

if you can remember purple-d tint from back in the day, you're old school. (i had an '85 mazda GLC hatch with purple-d flaking tint) if you were the guy who had that purple-d tint installed, you're just pretty old.

I may be old, but I'm like fine wine, I get better with age. Or just drunk... My EXP was basically a 2-seat Escort. Same engine, suspension, etc, just no back seat. The Versa feels like one million times the car that thing was, and I think it cost about the same if you adjust for inflation. ANd thanks for the replies, I'm glad to hear it's not as bad as I thought about price/fading now.
