I am putting a spare KA24E from a 240sx into a 1991 4 x 4 truck. ran into a few problems, but nothing I can't handle. Except for the fact the motor in the truck has no girdle, but the 240sx motor does. the girdle gets in the way of the oil pan on from the truck. can I just grind the girdle down where it hits the oil pan? or would I be better off keeping the bearing shells from the 240sx and switching out the main bearing caps from the truck motor without the girdle? thanks guys,

McAdam

ouch, that isnt really a dumb question, but a big problem. you cannot swap main caps from another block. Where is it hitting? you could try using a z24i pan from a hardbody 4x4 (may have more clearance?). otherwise only other thing i could see to do would be to bend out the pan if it almost fits, but if its a long way off modification of the girdle may be your only option. you "could" seperate the caps from the girdle (cutting) and grinding them down to resemble a truck type cap. i was never aware of this problem now i know

edit: if you can fix the problem by grinding down the girdle, if its just a little bit and not enough to require seperation of the girdle, that would be the best fix i would think

dam, to think that you might cut that girdle apart makes me shudder!!! just look at the torsional rigidity of that assembly! and you want to cut it apart? i say NO! do anything else you have to, but dont cut the girdle man.and definately dont try to swap bearing caps from another block.

I ended up girnding a bit off her eand there and then building a 1/2" thick oil pan extender, lol. basically it made the oil pan 1/2'" deeper so it owuld clear the girdle.

a cut/seperated girdle done right would be no different than a mexico block with seperate caps, or any other nissan engine for that matter. Torsional rigidity??????? what are you thinking?

McAdam, 1/2" deeper, did you modify the pan itself or just use a super thick homemade gasket?

if your putting it into a 4x4, it might complicate the already tricky process of getting the engine between the front diff and lining up with the transmission

I made a superthick homemade gasket. I have a trick for getting the motor in, the motor is just the block, was torn down so the head could be shaved (blown headgasket, spare 240sx block). The motor came out as a block and head seperate too.

Previous owner attempted to diagnose a hole in the block the size of my fist, as a blown headgasket as well. anyway, if you stirp the engine or its already stripped, hang it off the cherry picker by the passengers side mount, lower it in, has enough clearance to easily line up transmission and engine. because its on its side, you can have back and forth movement, then line it up, and slide it on, then rotate it 90 degrees, so the oil pan drops between the front suspension and diffeerential.

I hope this makes sense. Its 3 oclock and the bars closed! >:)

the girdle on the ka24e 240sx block is a brace of sorts that connects all of the main caps for the crankshaft

wow, dug up an old one here.

anyway you cant use the 240 pan in a truck because 2wd/4wd trucks use a rear sump oil pan and 240sx uses front sump.
