Can you manually fold the mirror without damaging the motor?

Not a dumb question. The one set I've replaced the motors on (a new gen Armada) did not have an overrunning spring mechanism and was apparently ruined by being forced. The job was about 4 hours per mirror because the connector had to be completely unpinned to replace the mechanism. So I can't say for certain on your ride, but my answer would be, "Probably not and I wouldn't risk it."

I was thinking that was the case and didn't want to risk it.

But then I just found Ed's video about the folding mirrors.

Kudos to infiniti, they all have overrunning mechanisms. Good to know!

It was a very good question, I found it helpfull but it didn't resolve my issue/question. From what I have found here in searches the ourside mirrors when switched to the center position "SHOULD" fold IN when I lock the car when I get out! It use to do that but it has stopped and I don't remember when it stopped. The driver side mirror is a little "Floppy", my guess is someone banged into it in a parking lot or something,,,,,anyway it will not close when I press the close switch inside on the drivers arm rest and the indicator is pushe to the "LEFT" to command the left mirror to be adjusted/retracted. It does make a grinding noise so I suspect that a gear inside the mirror is damaged and needs to be repaired/replaced. That being said I don't see how that would impact the RIGHT side mirror from retracting when the arm switch is in the center position and I close & lock the car. Anybody have an idea on what might be causing this????

Whether they auto-fold on Park is usually configurable. Check your vehicle menu settings and see if maybe your BCM had a memory loss.

Body Control Module. It's what supervises most of the functions on the car except the engine and tranny.

If you have the time to de-pin everything and swap the actuators, then here's the part numbers:
LH Power Actuator - Infiniti (96370-1MA0B)
RH Power Actuator - Infiniti (96369-1MA0A)

They are $220~ish online

Not a job for the unskilled or faint-hearted. The connectors are double-lock so have a good set of latch picks on hand, and take clear pics of both sides so you can re-pin correctly. Expect to spend a full afternoon on it.

Ok, so that isn't going to happen here, I will see if it is a simple fix, if not....well I suffer I guess....
