driver side door won't open

I have a 2009 Nissan Rogue. The drivers side door handle can be pulled but it won't open the door. I must open from the inside. I have taken off the door panel but I can't reach in far enough to tell if something is broken or what I can replace. I would like to do this myself to save costs but I can't figure out what to replace. I am also not sure if this is something you can take to the dealer or a body shop and what the cost would be. Any thoughts? I appreciate it.

If your very unlucky the dealer will quote you nearly $600 to fix that door and blame it on an actuator.

Same issue, my passenger rear door behind the drivers side would not open when the handle is engaged.

Took door apart myself and McGuyvered it. It was a pain in the A$$ but saved me $600 for now.

In my case, the ball bearing at the end of the cable broked off.
