Hi everyone,

I've had my Rogue for about a month and a half with about 1000 miles on it now.

I've noticed a slight driveline surge when starting from a complete stop a few times. It's kind of hard to explain, but it's similar to the driveline surge on a motorcycle when the chain is a tad loose. It's only happened to me twice, but my wife has also experienced it a few times also. I'm thinking that the transmission hasn't completely downshifted to it's lowest gear ratio or something, and when I get going from a stop it feels like the CVT is trying to set the proper ratio.

Also, I've noticed that there is a single knocking sound when I first get going in the morning. It's usually about 70F outside, and after about 25 yards I hear a single quiet knock and that's it. It happens every morning. I had a Saturn that exhibited the same problem years ago, and the dealership said it had something to do with the ABS system.

Anyone experience these idiosyncrasies?

The ABS system on most Nissans will do a self test within the first few few feet of driving after startup. You will hear the clicking/knocking noises for a second or two as the ABS solenoids activate. It is completely normal.

Read the manual on page 5-27:

Quote »Self-test feature

The ABS includes electronic sensors, electricpumps, hydraulic solenoids and a computer. Thecomputer has a built-in diagnostic feature thattests the system each time you start the engineand move the vehicle at a low speed in forwardor reverse. When the self-test occurs, you mayhear a “clunk” noise and/or feel a pulsation in thebrake pedal. This is normal and does notindicate a malfunction. If the computer sensesa malfunction, it switches the ABS off andilluminates the ABS warning light on theinstrument panel.[/quote]
