What effect will a 54% front/46% rear weight distribution have when drifting? Would it be harder to drift? Or is it just a slim difference in weight?

the rear may swing out a little easier due to not having quite as much weight in the back.

To drift, is it better to have a 50/50?

depends on your style. Different cars have different setups. There no ideal situation.

I asked that b/c a friend of mine has a '84 (or around that year) 944 Porsche, and when I asked him if he could drift with it, he said that he couldn't b/c it had a 50/50 weight distribution.

Your friend doesn't deserve that car.

Definitely.

50/50 is ideal for a Neutral handling balance. Neutral balance makes the car easier to control, Whether youre trying to get big oversteer or none at all.

your friend probably just doesn't know how - which is fine, not every1 is into that drifting stuff, you can drift in any rwd car, doesn't matter what suspension, how the weight distribution is, if it's on an open differential.

Thats pretty balanced. The rear will break easier and may be good if you are underpowered. The differeence could be made up by moving 30lb (based on a 3000lb weight) to the rear. (Battery relocation)

Yeah, a slight rear bias would be best for a pretty powerful RWD car. AWD drifting, well... that just breaks a lot of rules.

Oversteer is possible even in a FWD car, so bringing around the rear of a RWD car, especially one with pretty even weight distribution, ought to be pretty easily accomplished no matter what.

Less weight will shift to the front of the car when you apply the brakes on a car with a 50/50 weight distribution as opposed to a car with a 60/40 weight distribution which already has front weight bias.
