Hi guys, I just picked up my Versa a few days ago and am already moving forward with the mods (actually, the factory head unit isn't functioning so it needs to go). Thanks for providing this wealth of Versa know-how! Loving the forum!

I've installed single-din head units before but those were on a 95 Hardbody PU and a 96 200SX :)
I'm kind of a Nissan guy (NISMO FOR LIFE). I've never installed a double din unit before and definitely not on a car with so much more electronics. My Versa is a 2007, with SL trim and the Bluetooth package. I've tried to do some research but am having trouble with the raw basics. This is what I've figured out so far...

-For starters, I've found a Kenwood DDX470 (new in box) for a decent price on craigslist so thats the stereo that will be going in.
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-CKzLHDkrWG ... DX470.html
-I will use a harness adapter to make everything come together easier. I've found this one from Metra on Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Metra-70-7552-Wir ... ss+adapter
-I also intend to use a Metra Axxess ASWC to retain the steering wheel controls, seems like people have had decent luck with these.

So, now for the questions.
I can't figure out if I have to buy a dash kit (Metra or Scosche) or if there will be brackets on the old unit that simply switch over to the Kenwood. I'm tempted to open up my dash when I get some free time and see for myself.
Also, what happens to the steering wheel Bluetooth controls, can those be relayed to the Kenwood using the ASWC module as well?

I will post pics of the install. Thanks in advance for any help!

:welcome:

What is the current setup? Does it have 4 or 6 speakers? I take it that it's not the Rockford Fosgate system. Did you look at http://www.axxessinterface.com/steering ... l_new.aspx

Rogue, unfortunately I don't have the Rockford system, and there are little grills for the tweeters on the A-pillars so I assume it's the 6-speaker system.
Now that you mention 4-spkr vs 6-spkr, are factory tweeters wired into the factory HU? If so, I'll need to somehow connect them to the front speaker signals I'm guessing...

And yes, I took a look at the Metra Axxess website and everything is compatible. Metra provides me with an extra page of instructions. http://contentdocs.installernet.com/doc ... /10972.pdf

They also include this page which I can't seem to understand.

Is that disconnecting the factory bluetooth from everything so that my aftermarket HU can use bluetooth without interference? Or is that for the steering wheel's bluetooth buttons?

Um, yes? :frown: WTF is that? Before you pull the trigger on the module from ASWC, take a look at this vendor http://www.pac-audio.com/default.aspx

Here's two install video's you may find helpful:

Thanks for the vids Rogue, using those, I managed to bust open the dash to see what I am working with. From what I can tell, I won't need a mounting kit, just transfer the brackets and pop it in. Can anyone confirm that?

Also, regarding the PAC module, I've used PAC products before and I approve of their philosophy of "simple-but-works", but I've read lots of reviews that accuse the PAC of being buggy and difficult to program as opposed to the Metra. Do you have any experience with either?

In terms of wiring, looks like there are 4-individual connectors on the back of the factor HU. I assume the grey one is the infamous antenna harness I've read all-over about. This leaves 3 harnesses, but the Metra harness adapter only has one? Can anyone explain? I'm perfectly comfortable with cutting the factory harness and sodering but I'd much rather opt for simplicity ;)

Sorry, no I have no practical experience. I was hoping to provide some rudimentary info until someone with more intimate knowledge could chime in. Thanks for the insight on PAC's stuff, I wasn't aware of that.

Due to the Christmas/Boxing Day/Kwanzaa/New Year festivities, you may have to wait for replies. :frown:

Yeah, I figured that might be the case. That video at least helped me answer one question so thanks for the help so far
