I have 6.5 inch coaxial's in my 91 hardbody. The best is matter of opinion, but i have eclipse with a sony amp pushing them. Any top brand is fine with amp to power them. I have had alpine and infinity components, they rock 6 1/2 inch woofer and tweeter seperate with a cross over. They run 130 bucks and up. The eclipse triaxials I got for 6 bucks at the local pull a part junkyard. Hunt the yards sometimes you find good stuff. They retail for like 80 locally here. Best thing is to go to good shop and listen to the speakers pushed by amps and make up your own mind.

Did you have to do any mods to get them to fit

The door had 4 inch speakers in it, I cut out the hole for the 6 1/2 speakers to fit, that was all. Widen the hole and go to crutchfield.com and check speaker fitment chart for depth, mine fit fine and no clearance issues, but some may be deeper and get in the way of the window rolling all the way down. But mine fit fine after widening the hole a little. I also set up some 6x9 ,s in the back in the jump seat panels(king cab pickup). I have a huge box with 2 12,s . I have zero room in the back now LOL. If you have standard cab like my old truck a set of 6x9 ,s in the back in boxes(get them at any stereo shop and even walmart) work pretty good and take up little room.

Should be under carpet, watch those back speaker holes they are not real deep so to put in aftermarket speakers you may need some spacing rings. You can make them pretty easy with wood or MDF material with a jig saw. MDF(medium density fiber) Board can be gotten at lowes or home depot cheap and is easy to cut and has better sound quality than wood. Most all boxes for subs are made from it.
