I have a 2005 Nissan Murano. When I purchased it new six years ago, I had an alarm system installed from an alarm shop, not the dealership. The keyless entry remote which came with the alarm both activated the alarm and the door locks simultaneously. A couple years ago, the driver's side door would not open with the keyless entry remote and had it replaced at the dealership. They said it was an actuator problem. The cost was around $400+.
Now the passenger side door and the left backseat door, along with the hatchback, would not open with the keyless entry remote even though I can hear the sound of the locks clicking inside the doors. After researching and looking into the problem, I was thinking that it might just be a problem with the wiring of the alarm. I went to an alarm shop near my house to have them take a look at it. They said the alarm was shorted out, and the door actuators were shorted out. He installed new actuators on the non-working doors (at $55.00 PER DOOR). As soon as he did that, all doors worked and the hatchback was also able to lock/unlock. Also, the actuators had a lifetime warranty to them and it did not cost me extra. I did not have to spend another $400 per door. The only downside is that now I have to use the alarm remote and the door lock remote separately.
For those whose Muranos are not locking/unlocking, and had an alarm system installed outside of the dealership, go back to the alarm shop and have them look into it.
