I would get a Nissan NV but they are too expensive. I chose a ford because they are cheap, relatively easy to work on and convert to a 4x4, a lot of resources regarding experiences and track record etc, and they blend in public easily. Even if it does break down, ill be able to stay several days in it with all the modifications I plan on doing. Whatever happens, happens lol.

Seriously? My last Ford crapped out 18 months off the show room floor with a bad transaxel. Even if you gave me a Ford, I'd ditch it asap.

Yes seriously. I don't know what Ford you had... And I'm not saying they are all reliable by any means, but Econolines and Crown Vics run forever. As I said, there is a reason they use them for duty.

your so naive lol. they use ford because it was the lower bidder. same thing with the military. i have been stuck in a crown vic, expedition, e350 prisoner van for years - and ALL were crap. every single dept/officer i ever came across all said their CVPI's are crap.

my father owns a limo business. lincoln towncars, ford vans, and grand marquee's = GARBAGE. but he has to use them for their trunk space.

bud, there is a reason why cop cars are leased and returned at 60,000miles. ;)

Im not naive... There seems to be a real pro-Japan fan boy attitude on this site lol. Im realistic... And there are some American cars that are very reliable! Ive personally seen our gas econoline bus stay running constantly for a year straight (never turned off... ever) 24 hours a day for a year and never give problems. It is not pleasant to drive necessarily, but reliable. This truck has at least 60k on it also. Ive driven many econoline buses that were diesel that had well over 300k-500k on them and while they again, were not pleasant to drive, they still ran... My aunt has a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis and it has 130k. Since new its given her not one problem except the keypad on the door not working. Still reliable. I believe as a whole, Japanese vehicles are more reliable than American vehicles, but I still believe there are some bad Japanese vehicles and some good American ones.

While I do realize it comes down to bidding also, a department, service also thinks about intended uses of said vehicles and how cost effective they will be in the long run, ie how reliable theyll be. Also, some places buy the vehicles... The health system i work for buys our trucks. Hell, up until last year we were still using a 97 econoline truck as one of our backups. Now they just bought brand new Benzes... Now we use the Chevys as our backups

Whatever drives a department/hospital, etc. to get a certain type of vehicle, doesnt necessarily indicate how reliable they are, or how reliable they are not. Bottom line for this thread, his Econoline will bring him from alaska to chile.

i agree that many well maintained cars will drive for many miles. (diesel is designed for long hauls. no surprise that they get 300k plus) but from my experience, and many of my friends in various police dept's = ford is nothing but problems. now that ford stopped their traditional CVPI, and changed it to the Taurus; we will see whats up. and my friends who are using dodge chargers are also complaining about those cars. constant check engine lights, etc.

just because a bunch of federal/municipal agencies order the ford's - doesnt mean its the best. its simply the cheapest or the most convenient.

well, deal is done:
  • $29,XXX for the santa fe
    $25,250 for the g37s
i made them extend the 3 free months of BlueLink, into a 1year service. its a phone APP that lets auto-start, lock, locate, etc through your phone. The sales manager made us put in our credit card numbers into the service's website, and then gave us back the cash. LOL

i also bought the extended 100,000 bumper to bumper warranty for $1500(down from the initially offered $2800)

I am jealous man...looks better than my Rogue and has more options. I wish I could sell my Rogue, but no one wants to buy a two times rear ended car with front bumper replaced and PDR'ed after a hail damage...Now I have to drive a cursed car for the next 5-6 years!

Note: Is there a pin stripe on the side of the car?
