go back to the first page and read again. the only thing you need to do to make it work is swap bellhousings...and in my case pull the tranny out again and find the reason **** dont go into gear.

I just did this last week. Everything went smooth except, I am using a Shaftmasters driveshaft which was not fitting after the swap....I noticed that the area where the dust collar originally was ( KA trans rear half ) happened to be 1/4 inch longer then the SR counterpart and required trimming this was a s13 DOHC transmission. I don't know if this applies to SOHC or S14 transmissions. Everthing is now perfect and has had no issues.

I didn't read through the whole thread but, to append your write up.

You can do this swap much easier and with MUCH less error if you do NOT separate the rear housing from the dogbox sandwich plate.

You are more likely to drop the shift forks out of place (read some of that in this thread) by taking the rear off. Just leave it on and RTV sealed if you can, by only prying the bellhousing side to the sandwich plate.

This can be done with allot of other trans too! The Z31, S12 trans is shorter, but the sandwhich mount is the same, so you could take a CA20E trans, put an SR bellhousing on it, and drop an SR swap in say a 510 or S12 w/o having to modify the driveshaft.

Lots of interchangeability.

Thanks for the post up John. I was taught that particular way, so I guess it's just natural for me to do it that way. It also lets you get a good inspection of the center bearings and gears as well.

you my man, are a LIFESAVER! same s*** happened to me tonight, ka tranny was spinning freely and fine, then I get the bellhousing on, and tighten bolts and it was freaking stuck, would not shift at all! The clip for the input shaft wouldn't even get all the way on. I'm glad I know this I am going to do this tomorrow

Will this procedure be the same for using an SR trans for a KA?

Hey guys, nice right up. I just did it, but I'm having some troubles re assembling the tail shaft onto the sandwich plate. I move the selector to the drivers side, to clear and all goes good. But after getting the tail shaft to mate up, and bolt the tail down, I installed the shifter, and it doesnt go into gears right. it feels like it goes into 1st, and 2nd. but wont move to the passenger side, to get to 3rd 4th, and 5th.
Any thoughts? Thanks
