Exactly why I said it would be a while before they were at a decent price. This is pretty standard for new car parts.m37intheburg wrote:I called today Q70 mirrors $1200 each. I like what you did it looks so much better. Was this hard to wire up for turning?
Haha. It has been dragging on.DoN_BLaZe34 wrote:Bringing this back from the dead
eBay. They are not very bright in direct sunlight. They are more then bright enough in all other lighting. I may switch to a homemade 3w CREE LED strip. Maybe.1GR8M56S wrote:Where did you purchase the upgraded light strips?
Thanks!IlyaKol wrote:Good work!
Thanks! Similar to what the factory instructions recommend which is why I included it in my instructions. I just was not interested in making a map of what wire went where. And if that connector broke or one of the wire plugs was damaged while removing it I would be in a mess. Much more peace of mind for me to just cut and the solder + shrink wrap the wires.1GR8M56S wrote:Excellent, only thing I would do different is instead of cutting the wires you could go into the plug with a small flat head and remove each wire one by one, but good write up, thanks.
The Factory Service Manual recommends these steps to get to remove the plug which allows the mirror housing to come off the base:I instead chose to… Cut the wiring harness off – sounds bad but they are just wires.
- Note terminal layout
Open plug
Remove connectors from the harness
I hooked mine up to the same 50w 6ohm resistors that my front turn signals use. They are like THESE.Ilya wrote:Debonair, I skimmed the thread but couldn't find it.
What type of resistor do these require?
My dad is trying to do something similar on a 2014 Pathfinder and I'm assuming his issue is lack of resistor. When he connects to the turn signal wire, they just stay on instead of flashing with the turn signals.
Absolutely. The trick is getting one that matches the shape of your mirrors. A little bit off doesn't look too bad but any more than a tiny bit and it's very obvious that it was not intended for that mirror. You could probably buy these mirrors and use them as a template to mark them cut The OE mirrors and add their turn signals to them.Altim8M37 wrote:Hey Deb, Any chance of modifying an existing mirror housing to get the same effect? Like say...purchase a replacement pair and cut into them to add the strips? If the strips were mounted flush, would cover any cut plastic and not have to worry about sanding and painting edges. Just a thought, seeing as how you've taken these apart.
They are still working perfectly. No dead LED's so far.infinitedrift wrote:How are your lights holding up?
Still working great. No dead LED's so far. Thank you for the compliment.WillV wrote:I hope they are still working for you; the mirror turn signals is something I wish I could do! (I know I am in the 2011+ thread) But from what I saw, they look good for you! I wish Infiniti didn't just stick a little light onto the side of the older M's. Oh well; small little detail with which I can live for all of the great things. And great DIY writeup; I do not have your model, but read anyway and it was very nice.
