$1200 for the mirrors but that includes the Camera for the AVM. If you could plug those then it be worth it as they are OEM, have turns built in and are sleeker looking. But I bet they will require alot of work to make them work.

Exactly why I said it would be a while before they were at a decent price. This is pretty standard for new car parts.

Wiring up the mirrors I am installing will be covered in the full DIY which has been delayed by the changes/upgrades I am making to them. I don't think it is too hard.

Haha. It has been dragging on.

The LED strips that I initially installed started having LEDs fail. Replacements were sent by the seller but those were not much better. I ordered a different set of amber only strips from a different seller. They are installed and working as of a couple weekends ago. I have not had time to take decent pics and finish the write-up for AZHitman.

Quick dirty preview...

Where did you purchase the upgraded light strips?

Excellent, only thing I would do different is instead of cutting the wires you could go into the plug with a small flat head and remove each wire one by one, but good write up, thanks.

eBay. They are not very bright in direct sunlight. They are more then bright enough in all other lighting. I may switch to a homemade 3w CREE LED strip. Maybe.

Thanks! Similar to what the factory instructions recommend which is why I included it in my instructions. I just was not interested in making a map of what wire went where. And if that connector broke or one of the wire plugs was damaged while removing it I would be in a mess. Much more peace of mind for me to just cut and the solder + shrink wrap the wires.

Per the guide:
The Factory Service Manual recommends these steps to get to remove the plug which allows the mirror housing to come off the base:
  • Note terminal layout
    Open plug
    Remove connectors from the harness
I instead chose to… Cut the wiring harness off – sounds bad but they are just wires.

Very well written DIY with photos to provide visuals! I wish the car came prewired for the side and front camera to perform the All Around View angles

Debonair, I skimmed the thread but couldn't find it.

What type of resistor do these require?

My dad is trying to do something similar on a 2014 Pathfinder and I'm assuming his issue is lack of resistor. When he connects to the turn signal wire, they just stay on instead of flashing with the turn signals.

He bought these cheap ones from Amazon against my recommendation: http://www.amazon.com/HDE-Waterproof-Ye ... op?ie=UTF8

I hooked mine up to the same 50w 6ohm resistors that my front turn signals use. They are like THESE.

The resistors are used to simulate the resistance of the factory incandescent bulb so that the blinker relay/BCM will not think it's burnt out and blink fast to alert the vehicle operator. If the factory incandescent bulb is still in place and blinks properly, a resistor will probably not correct the issue with the LED strip.

You might want to get a test light multimeter out and check if the turn signals alternate the positive voltage or ground to blink the bulbs. If they are constant positive with alternating ground, and he grounded them to the chassis, that could be why they just stay on. Just an idea.

Hey Deb,

Any chance of modifying an existing mirror housing to get the same effect? Like say...purchase a replacement pair and cut into them to add the strips? If the strips were mounted flush, would cover any cut plastic and not have to worry about sanding and painting edges. Just a thought, seeing as how you've taken these apart.

Absolutely. The trick is getting one that matches the shape of your mirrors. A little bit off doesn't look too bad but any more than a tiny bit and it's very obvious that it was not intended for that mirror. You could probably buy these mirrors and use them as a template to mark them cut The OE mirrors and add their turn signals to them.

The other problem is that most OE turn signals, and these aftermarket ones, mount inside the mirror. So they would not cover the cuts. If you can find one with the right shape and a bezel that would cover the cuts it is definitely doable.

I hope they are still working for you; the mirror turn signals is something I wish I could do! (I know I am in the 2011+ thread) But from what I saw, they look good for you! I wish Infiniti didn't just stick a little light onto the side of the older M's. Oh well; small little detail with which I can live for all of the great things. And great DIY writeup; I do not have your model, but read anyway and it was very nice.

Still working great. No dead LED's so far. Thank you for the compliment. :bigthumb:

Any chance you’d like to install mine? Of course I’d pay you.
