HUGE profit for the dealer, little visible benefit for the buyer.

I disagree.... As marketed, water completely beads off the windows and on the body. I find this to be a great thing when driving in the rain. Also, with the fabric protection plan, it will only cost me $50 a year to get a full detail on the car.

You can get a bottle of spray for $10 that will pretty much do the same thing. I've got windshield washer liquid with the same stuff in it, making rain basically fall off my windshield, which I love. I still pay $4/gallon for it. You can do the same sort of scotch guarding on your own too for much less.

So the huge profit for dealers still holds It may be worth it to some.

Exactly They come in both windshield washer form, and spray on form. Very cheap, and very effective.

Huge ripoff. Never buy any extras from a dealership. Do your research and you can get much better prices for the same things elsewhere.

My dealer also offered me oil changes and tire rotations for $600 for my 36 month lease. But if I don't drive the full 36,000 miles, it's a huge rip.

Obviously you've never heard of car wax or RainX. And this answers my question as to "who actually falls for this trick and perpetuates the idea of a $400 wax job?"

No car wax application is permanent - and the Simonize treatment is no different. Supposedly it's a special car wax, but a little time searching the 'net reveals that there's nothing so special about it.

Solution? Buy a $5 to $10 bottle of your favorite wax, and invest a little time some weekend to wash and wax your car. It'll wash off after a few months, usually, but at least you won't be out several hundred dollars.

If you're going to go Simonize, might as well invest in some blinker fluid and eBay performance chips while you're at it.
