Well... Motor on the cheap... do you still have the original motor? What area do you live in?

a small block chevy in all honesty would be the most cost effective.

there's a lot of factors in that...how much power do you want?

who's doing the work?

Put a 13BT Rotary in it, I got a guy here in my RX7 club that has one in his. 260hp with meth inject and 7psi. That car makes me cream. If you wanna get rid of it, email me, I got a spare engine in my storage that was ment for your car.

L28et... swap is kinda easy wiring is easy. L28ets are pretty quick. We swapped one in my little brothers 76 280, all in cost less than 3k for motor, trans, driveshaft.

We did get a super sweet deal on an '82 turbo motor with 6k on the clock and a T-5 with the same.

Well I havent read any of your previous post so i'm not quite sure what u were tryn 2 do and "inexpensive" isn't exactly a budget range but I understand. The least expensive route in my opinion would be something you could find the most parts for without breakin pockets and a KA or any of the nissan v6's would be the best and probably the easiest to mod at any time. Even a max vq30/6spd tran into any rwd is a great option for decent power on a small budget. Mckinney I belive makes mount kits for all those options. I'm all most certain you could get the z to at least CRANK for under 2k by sticking with a usdm spec engine
