This picture is gorgeous. What a beautiful truck. You've kept it very well. Every picture I have seen of it, just gets nicer. Good job.

G'day to all,

Just picked up a 1963 V320 2-door wagon. It is complete, but needs restoration. Year 1963, VIN 320-3-24383, engine E1-324283. Plan is to keep it stock, except for front disc brakes.

Cheers,

Sel

Hi, I am new to the club. I just bought L320 Vin # 4L320-00601D and have plans to restore to driver condition. It is missing the motor and transmission but is very solid. I am in Maine and rust is the killer of these old trucks. I don't care about keeping it 100% stock and am curious what other motors might be a good transplant? Datsun car? Datsun truck? Anything I should particularly avoid? I'm not building a hot rod and I'm not building a 100 point show truck. I just like these old trucks and this one caught my eye as the body was so nice. Consider it another one saved from the scrap yard. Any tips on a good motor trans set up would be much appreciated, regards, Rick.

Hello - new here

Mine is 1965 (supposedly with rare 1964 features - still not sure of that): 4L 320 02536

Supposedly they used left over 1964s? That would mean the VIN would be an early '65 or late '64?

Hi Brian!

Hard to tell with these, since they weren't stamped until sold. If it has a floor shifter, it's a true '65.

More likely it's a leftover '64 that was sold in early '65 (and therefore stamped as a '65).

Gemmer,

Welcome aboard. Let us know if you need any assistance with parts and what not. So did it start up? I have a '64 that sat from 1978 to last Fall without starting up once. Took a little bit of work but it runs fine. Video is on flickr

Hello every one

VIN 300317429, Engine no. IE245023 (I presume that "IE" is incorrect and should read E1.) 1963 Light Green, excellent condition, runner.

VIN 320300322, no engine, gearbox. Red but originally light green. Body OK, no original wheel rims. No plate indicating the year etc. Based on the grill design it is a 1963.

It would seem that our tail lights in South Africa differ, being individual brake and turn signal, round and conical in shape lights.

Close by is a wreck of an 223, with little left for stripping, asking price approximate $200.

DylanFM,

Welcome aboard and to the world of the little Datsun 320 here on NiCo! Let us know if you need any technical assistance, how to, or parts information. We have a pretty resourceful crew that is following and checking into the Datsun 320 Forum. Some one, some place, with a 320 knows the information.

My '63 does not have the original E1 either, but it still an E1 and it runs!

Would be great if you could share some pics with us.

Here is a link to a few pictures. It run pretty ok, but does have some problems getting over hills. I'm going to replace the points, rotor, cap and condenser (still looking for a replacement condenser) this weekend and see if that helps. I will need some help locating some parts, mostly rubber parts like the door window seals, but I will do some more research and post in a new/different thread for that.

DylanFM,

Wow, that sure seems to have a rust free body and I see the tail lights are in good shape also.

Here's a quick run down of parts/info -

Condenser - available, part # from Napa is Echlin EP300, any parts store should be able to cross reference this part number for you and get a compatible condenser.

Rubber - have yet to delve into this one 100%. However, eBay does have the front windshield seal available. These are mostly from overseas, but I have yet to have any issues.

I want to say I've seen the rear glass seal, but this can also be made by a hotrod shop the chops and channels as the seal is pretty simple to fabricate.

For the window felt, your larger commercial interior/fabric store might have this. I know National Fabric in KCKS has several size to choose from and its sold by the foot, so I'm going this route.

For the bottom squeegee and felt, I will be looking into National Fabric, Hanna Rubber, as well as comparing measurement with the '60s Fairlady's. I have seen both of these on eBay for sale.

I have yet to find a door seal that I like, but have yet to look that hard. I'm heading down to National Fabric and Hanna Rubber next week to pick up upholstery (Red and Vanilla) for Whitey and will look a little harder at what they sell.

v/r
Andy
