Just closed the deal on my 1962 Datsun L320 truck. 2nd owner and original title in hand. Originally from Ventura CA. It's blue with a weathered patina. Like one of those weathered carribbean villas!

VIN# L320200881

I am pretty certain it is all original parts. It's a fixer upper as been sitting for three years since driving - not too bad- will post pictures later. Hoping to learn from others experience. I have a few other vintage Datsuns but this is my oldest yet! I am counting on the wonderment of old Datsun engines and plan on having a running engine in a month's time, schedule permitting (and the grace of the Datsun parts God of course).

My truck is a 1963 L320

VIN # L320-3-00001

motor # 186106

Could my truck have been the first truck off the lines for the US 1963 model year? Would be pretty cool if it was!

1965 320
VIN L320000291
it has factory floor shifter, but the front turn lamps are of the wedge type so I'm thinking he may have retrofitted the lamps/grill to 64 spec.

this is a truck that I bought from Horn Lake Auto Wreckers on Vancouver Island a few years back. Took it home & tore it apart for spares....
VIN # L320014771 engine E1678305

Datsun's VIN #'s don't seem to be consecutive at all, anybody know how to make sense of it? My 65 with floor shifter must have been one of the last ones built...but the VIN is L320000291....figure that out!

I have a 320 pasture special, VIN L320-000487 It has 1965 as the date on it but from everything i've found it is a 1964. The motor # is E1 520 225. I love these little trucks, my family has owned many Datsuns and the little trucks were always my favorite. Happy Motoring, drive friendly.

Hi Glenn! Welcome aboard.

VIN # should be on the firewall someplace, as well as the data plate.

The number doesn't mean much, since Nissan used non-sequential numbering back them.

We're making some progress on compiling those early truck numbers. Anytime you see another one, please make note of the VIN and post it up (and invite the owner to pop in as well!)

AZhitman ... trying to help a friend put a 1963 L320 Pickup back on the road ... need help tracking down replacement parts, especially, Clutch & Brake Master Cylinders or rebuild kits for the same (see my prior posting in this forum). Do you know of sources for this vehicle in AZ? I've also read here that 240Z stuff can be used but details were lacking. Do you know anyone who has done this? We are in Wittmann AZ THANKS!

I just bought a NL320 # 4-L320 60534D. It says 1965 for year on ID plate but has a 1964 Grille. Has matching Engine numbers as listed on plate.Trying to make it a driver as I restore. Runs real good. Hydraulics need attention.

Good day sir!

I haven't found those parts for the 320 at all. I own a 240Z, and there's no way those parts are interchangeable on a 320.

Some have asked about using 520 parts, but again, there's a lot of difference between the trucks.

This is somewhat of a shot in the dark, but, Datsun starting out making copies of Austin vehicles under license. Therefore their cars/trucks were at least initially developed from this. You might try investigating the specs of the parts you need vs. parts from an Austin vehicle (I believe there are a few other British manufacturers that were part of the same company). Odd as it may seem I'd be willing to bet there might be something that works and is available.

Pickup had no engine. This truck now lives on the central Oregon coast, USA getting a complete face lift and major V8 transplant.

June 1, 2011, found and purchased a second L320. This one runs and drives but has serious body cancer. Will end up a parts truck for sure. It will spend it's last days on the Oregon Coast rusting away.

I bought a 65 L320 VIN 4-L320-03558D.

One problem I am having is the title shows L320403558D, where the 4 is in a different place, and I can't get it transferred without resolving the VIN issue. I am trying to find the chassis number to see which way it is stamped, but I can't locate it. The owners manual says that it's "Top surface of left forward part of frame side member". I would take that to mean it's on the top of the frame rail toward the front of the vehicle on the driver's side. Since the manual was translated from Japanese, I might be misinterpreting what they are saying. Is it visible from the engine compartment? How do I need to position myself to see it? I have looked all over and can't seem to locate it.

The picture in the manual is of no help. Can anyone give me a specific spot to look with clear instructions? Better yet would be a photo with some context so I can find the same spot on my vehicle. I'd like to have the answer before I take it to the Highway Patrol for verification.

Thanks!

Just took possession of a 1964 NL320 yesterday in really good condition, registered and drives great. It seems to be totally original with just 40,000 miles on it and has a super straight rust free CA body. It even has the original license plate frames from the dealer. It has been repainted once but needs it again. The interior has been redone back to the original pattern (at least they say it is). I am not an expert on these trucks and appreciate any input.

Any good resources for parts? I need to rebuild the carb on the 64 as the accelerator pump doesn't work good and one of the wheel cylinders seeps a little.

I would add a pic but don't know how to do it on here.

Welcome aboard!

To post pics here, you'll need to upload them to a place like Photobucket (easy to do).

Then, just follow the directions to copy the link to your picture (choose the one that's got [img] at the beginning, paste it into your post, and you're all set!

We can tell you a lot more about your 320 if we can see pics. Congratulations!!!

Hey Greg,
I was just wondering if this 320 Vin Registry is in a view-able format somewhere? Would be interesting to look it over.
