Hello,

Last evening when I was driving home from work, there was a weird problem with the dashboard.

The AC was on and at minimum fan speed, the radio was on. All of a sudden the fan speed increased to Max, the radio was playing but the volume could not be increased or decreased, the radio display went blank. The AC could not be turned off.

When i reached home and turned off and then turned on the ignition, everything seemed to work again. However, when i increase the volume, the radio display blinks and goes blank and comes back again. It would not show the volume level.

This happened once about a year ago. Can anyone guide me as to what part needs to be replaced and how much would it cost?

Is it ok to buy the part and have it replaced at a non infiniti service centre?

Thanks guys in advance !!!!

PS- I have a photo of the dashboard. Not sure how to upload it here.

Very common problem with the 03-04 G35s. Your head deck just went. Try these guys for repairs.

I got "CD ERROR" 4 yrs ago and since then I have been using the FM transmitter.

Has that problem lead to the whole unit failing now?

I read in other forums that it is better to get an aftermarket player and kit than to fix this issue as it might repeat itself at a later stage.

Can the gurus comment on it? I want a permanent fix as opposed to fixing it every few months.

Thanks!

When fixed the place should upgrade everything including the A/C components on it.

I had mine fixed locally after a CD error (locked up, broken plastic gears) and he upgraded the components as well. Haven't have a problem since. Was fixed for about $200. I was looking at probably $500+ to buy dash kit, radio, speakers.

I am not worried about the "CD ERROR" msg...i am happy using my MP3 player and FM transmiter.

I don't want the AC to work randomly...and i don't want the Radio display to go blank.

Does this involve replacing one of the circuit board on the head unit or replacing the whole head unit itself?

They replace some resistors/circuit boards, usually nothing that has to replace the entire unit.

After a lot of research, I decided to go aftermarket.

I would like to get rid of the OEM unit and install the JDM DD w/Pioneer. Do I have to go with the metra kit or do I have another kit option?

Can someone list the different parts needed for this mod, including the adapter for the steering wheel control? Also a rough cost would be great...i want to ensure I am paying a fair price.

Once again, I have a 2003 infiniti G35, 4D sedan, beige interior without the factory navigation system. I want to ensure that I purchase the right parts.

Is it recommended to purchase all these online or find a supplier in Montreal and have them instakll it? (I live in Montreal BTW)

Thanks a lot guyss!!!

Try these guys for the head deck parts: http://www.nissaninfinitiparts.com/scri ... ategory=18

As for the steering wheel controls, there are a few options out there. PAC makes an adapter...http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss? ... o+steering

Ok, I spoke to the crutchfield guyz and here is what I am considering.

1. Head Unit - Kenwood DPX 308U (199$)
http://www.crutchfield.ca/Kenwood_DPX_3 ... px308u.htm

2. Metra Kit (originally 199$, with discount 100$)
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_120997604/ ... ml?tp=3486

3. Stereo harness =0$ (included for free)
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_120707551/ ... ml?tp=2977

4. Steering wheel control adapter = 70$
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_127SWIJACK ... ml?tp=3405

Total cost = 370$

A local mechanic quoted me 2 hrs labor charges @ 60$/hr (120$)

So I might be able to fix the issue for 490$.

Does anyone know if this will totally isolate AC from the audio system? I can live with a broken audio system in the future but in MOntreal we need the defogging system.

Just for info...i called the infiniti dealership and they quoted me 1300$+ tax to fix it and also mentioned that this problem can crop up in the future. WTF!!!!

I have been looking to find photos and videos of Kenwood DPX308U installed on a G35 just to see how it looks like...can someone post me a link if you find one. I have tried a bit but could not find one installed on a G35.

Finally, what do u guys think about the value for the price? I have never worked on my G, should i consider hooking it myself?

Thanks in advance.

OK, a few things. I'd contact the guys at shortcircuit repair to see if replacing the deck will allow your AC unit to function after there's been a problem. Next, I'd look around at other websites for your gear. Crutchfield is a good place to start, but you don't usually find good deals. Try these guys: http://www.audiovideodimension.com/

As for doing the work yourself...that's really up to you and your abilities. The car isn't any harder to work on than anything else. If you have the tools and the know-how, go ahead! We're here to help if you need it.

Is there an alternate to the Metra Kit? The thing looks like it belongs in a Yugo instead of an Infiniti...
