Lol I remember when I paid to get a cassette tape in my 1986 honda.. lol

You're right, people always want more options and stuff and get bored easily and want more.. so they make things cheaper, like disposable so we change more often..

Warranty repairs may not be fun for the techs but still.. I guess I was expecting more from a new car.. but again my mom said the one new car she had in her whole life, she spent the first year at the dealership to get stuff fixed.. This is gonna be a long year :P

hahahaha, glad I could entertain you!...lol...

I`m just one of those guys that had many cars from the 60`s, 70`s, 80s, to present etc and have seen way to much change for the benefit for who, I could understand the safety aspect, but I felt just as safe in my 1972 Gran torino sport 466cui, built by myself doing 135 down the interstate then half these crackerboxes!

many cars, many stories

While I realize this topic has been beaten to death both in this thread and in others I posted some solutions to last winter, this winter I've discovered another approach that helps.

The 'bucket of bolts' dash problem is definitely worse in the cold weather but does subside significantly once the interior warms up. Trouble is that if you use the floor only setting expecting the car to get warm, you'll have a long wait as those vents are clearly too small to heat the large interior volume. And, as has been documented plenty elsewhere, selecting the defrost setting along with the floor causes the A/C unit to turn on thereby robbing precious degrees from the heater.

I have found that selecting the floor and dash vent setting works much faster, eliminates the need for the A/C compressor to engage, and dramatically shortens the amount of time you need to listen to the rattles. And if you want to shorten this time even more, adjust all 5 dash vents to their half closed position. This results in each of them making the dash warmer than fully open and goes a long way to reducing the various grunts and groans.

My dashboard has rattled horribly starting 3 weeks after I got my new 2010 Nissan, when the weather turned cold ! They have had the dash apart twice to no avail and now it has started rattling where the temperature controls are !!

They have also fixed the left front end noise twice and the clutch noise once but it hasn't left either..........

What can I do about this? I honestly don't think they believe me !!

I was able to fix my rattle (which was more like a cracking sound when it's cold). I noticed the sound stopped if jammed my hand between the place over the cup holder. I inserted a chunk of blue Styrofoam (used to isolate houses) in the spot circled in this pic:

I don't know if it can help. I think every Versa is different, you need to find what causes the sound and work from there. It can take forever and I suspect that with time, the source of the sound might change. I had the dealership try to fix it multiple times to no avail but my DIY fix seems to work for now.

I am not sure if I should show it to the dealership to see if they have a more aesthetic solution to the blue Styrofoam or if I should just let it be since I fixed it and I am afraid they might mess it up..

There are still little sounds here and there (coming from the back it seems) but I've learned to live with it. Versa are prone to all sort of rattles cuz I guess they use mostly plastic for the interior.

Good Luck!

I have this rattle problem in my 2011Versa from the beginning. Its definitely a design flaw. The dash should never be made out of these so many smaller pieces. I tried super glue in between the joints. It helped a bit. My previous car was Sentra. Went for Nissan again... But Just Be Sure Nissan, I Will Never Ever Buy Nissan.
