Cycles(Motorized of course)

Anybody ride a bike other than Ninja? Any suggestions as to what I should get? Thinking reasonably, SV650S seems to be a decent first bike/commuter-type ride, does a little bit of everything well and, unlike the Superhawk/TL1000 isn't gonna be real rough on the insurance front. If I had the $$ to just have a toy I'd get a real track bike, but lacking funds (typical poor college boy) I kinda want something I can bomb around on and still use to get somewhere if I need it to.
